Moss Cottage: Named after the colourful veils of Spanish
moss that drape down from the islands massive live oaks, Moss Cottage was the long-time winter home of George
Henry Macy. Macy began as a tea importer but quickly expanded this sideline into the
A&P food store chain. The rustic Moss Cottage was the first on Jekyll Island made
entirely of local building materials. Macys neighbour, Frank Goodyear, lived in a three-storey stucco cottage. Hes not the rubber tire patriarch
from Akron, but rather a powerful lumber baron from Buffalo. |
