To introduce you to our organization:
HARROW EARLY IMMIGRANT RESEARCH SOCIETY, (H.E.I.R.S.)
P. O. Box 53, Harrow, ON N0R 1G0
Phone: 519 738 4368
or my FAX, 519 738 9315
or my e-mail: edith.woodbridge@sympatico.ca
Our location is 72 King St. East, Harrow, in Unit 3.
In the town of Harrow, Ontario, (Essex County) we have an historical
collection and many genealogical references for South Essex families
and in particular, the township of Colchester and town of Harrow.
We have recently published a book, HARROW AND COLCHESTER SOUTH, 1792-
1992. Copies are still available. This area was called "The Loyalist
Settlement on Lake Erie", or sometimes "Two Connected Townships --
Colchester and Gosfield" and
it was strongly German in its ethnic roots.
I have been working on the history of the Methodist and Presbyterian
churches of the Western District, as they pertain to our township,
and have uncovered documents which have been very useful.
Our society is not ON LINE as yet, but we are currently indexing the
many family names, and their members, on computer.
We are looking for a suitable computer program to further our cause.
Currently we are using the WordPerfect sorting program, and also
Brother's Keeper. We have been referred to a program called
IN MAGIC and would like to know if anyone has used it for genealogical
or local history data.
Will correspond with anyone searching in our area. Our members span
Canada and U.S.A. -- those with roots in Essex South.
It seems that Central and Eastern Ontario dominate your pages, but
I did not search them all -- yet!
