animated-classic-santa.gif (6676 bytes)The appearance of Santa Claus, as we know him today, was largely shaped by Clement Moore's 1822 poem and Thomas Nast's drawing that appeared in Harper's Weekly between 1863 and 1886.
Moore's poem introduced the reindeer-drawn sleigh and suggested Santa was jolly and fat, but still portrayed him as a small elfin character.

Coca-Cola   gave Santa Claus high exposure and cemented the modern image of Santa with their advertising campaign designed to increase sales over the winter that spanned 20 years.
