These are sites that update every day, or every week, or certain days of the week.
Anything that updates on a regular schedule.
Mostly webcomics.
Come to think of it, these are all webcomics.
- BoxJam's Doodle by BoxJam. Extremely simple drawing, almost stick-figures. Even so, it's a wonderfully inventive and funny comic. And it's got the Québec Nordiques. How can you go wrong with the Québec Nordiques? Pity it hasn't updated since March. (Weekdays)
- Bruno by C. Baldwin. Wow. I only discovered this comic recently, after seeing mention of it a few times in the past. I wish I'd started reading earlier. On the other hand, this way gave me the chance to read the archives since 1996 to now all at once. This is really, really good stuff. (Monday to Thursday)
- Cat and Girl by Dorothy Gambrell. This comic has it all. Beatnik vampires! Zombie Joseph Beuys! Death! Hipster Scouts! Space aliens who want your deodorant! Social commentary and litcrit! A cat! and a girl! I love this comic. (Tuesday)
- College Roomies from Hell!!! by Maritza Campos. Weird, twisted comic. It's not really about college life. It's off in a world of its own. There's an apocalyptic story arc that manages not to be totally lame. And a weird-for-the-sake-of-weirdness main character who manages not to be totally lame. That's pretty darn good. (Daily)
- Diesel Sweeties by R. Stevens. An instant classic. Pixellated robot raunchiness. (Weekdays)
- Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire by Michael ``Mookie'' Terracciano. This is a fairly young strip about a grumpy seer. And his talking cat. And a young lady with serious dental problems. I wasn't expecting to like another fantasy comic strip, but this one's pretty good. It's refreshingly light-hearted. Some of the violence is a little too graphic for my tastes. (Weekdays)
- Elf Only Inn, by Josh Sortelli. It's about online roleplaying chat rooms. If you aren't involved in online RP, you probably won't find this funny. I, on the other hand, have been into it since 1997, so I find this stuff telling and hilarious. The early strips are cut-and-paste, which I'm not too fond of, but later ones are drawn competantly. (Monday, Wendesday, Friday)
- Freefall by Mark Stanley. Wonderful epic science fiction strip. The plot pacing is incredibly slow, but it works. The fact that it's often funny helps a lot. (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
- General Protection Fault by Jeff Darlington. I used to like this a lot more, but it started taking itself too seriously. It's still interesting, though. (Daily)
- The Grimbles by Burke. Wonderful comic about the endless supply of relatives of the main character. A touch of Edward Gorey. Sadly, it hasn't been updated since November, and that makes me sad. (Tuesday and Friday)
- Ozy and Millie by D.C. Simpson. Fun comic. I am often reminded of my childhood when I read this. Lots of Zen jokes and assorted silliness. (Tuesday and Thursday)
- RPG World by Ian J. A comic about Final Fantasy-like RPG video games that manages not to be totally lame. Sweet!
- Scary-Go-Round by John Allison. Nice, clean CG artwork. Sometimes confusing, but usually hilarious. This is the sequel to Bobbins. Highly non-repetitive. (Weekdays)
- Sinfest by Tatsuya Ishida. An instant classic. Not to everyone's taste, it's a pastiche of, well, a lot of stuff. Liberally sprinkled with the most wincingly bad gangsta slang, and occasional beat poetry. Occasionally breaks from the main characters to do a cute cat-and-dog story. Best recurring sight gag: Japanese calligraphy. Beautiful artwork. (Daily)
- Sluggy Freelance by Pete Abrams. I can't make an unbiased review of this comic. I've been reading it since 1999, and it's like reading any comic that long. You start to care about the characters you've been following for years, and it doesn't really matter to you whether the strips are still good or not, you want to know what happens next. With that said, I think the strip's held up well and I still find it funny. So, yay Pete! (Daily)
- Zebra Girl by Joe England. Started out rather surrealist and a lot funnier. It's settled down into a more straight, serious, dark comic. About a woman who gets turned into a demon. (Friday)
Blogs
... and blog-like things. I read these blogs and news sites mostly via RSS feeds.
I'm still waiting for the CBC to provide a public RSS feed for their news.
