Whole-House
Ventilation Systems with Heat Recovery With a house that keeps the heat (and
also the air) in, one must ensure a proper
exchange of stale house air with fresh air from
outside. Indoor air is between 2 to 5 times more
polluted than outdoor air - even in downtown
Toronto. With increasing rates of asthma caused
by pollution, it is important to keep your house
air as fresh as possible. Only with a controlled
ventilation system, a heat recovery ventilator
(HRV), can ensure a continuous supply of fresh
air. The HRV brings a constant supply of fresh
air into the house, while exhausting stale air.
It includes a heat exchanger, which heats the
incoming (cold) airstream with the warm, outgoing
airstream. Thus 80% of the heat stays in the
house even with the constant addition of fresh
air. By controlling humidity, HRV's also reduce
condensation on walls and windows, prevent mildew
and rot, and thus protect the building envelope.
Alpha-Tec supplies and installs a wide variety of
ventilation equipment including Van EE, Venmar
and LifeBreath.

Air
FiltrationAlpha-Tec can attach additional filters
to any forced air system to filter the air from
outside as well as the air circulating inside the
house. Two technologies can eliminate up to 99%
of airborne particulates, dust, allergens and
volatile organic compounds (VOC) from urban
pollution. The HEPA (high efficiency particulate
air) system is commonly used in houses where the
occupants suffer from acute forms of asthma and
chemical allergies, and TFP (turbulent flow
precipitator) units are installed in houses to
keep dust levels down and remove pollen and dust
from the house air.

R-2000
Homes are the most
comfortable, energy-efficient and environmentally
responsible new homes on the market. Across Canada, a
network of specially-trained builders can design any new
home to meet the R-2000 Standard.
