Malcolm B. Stephens

Malcolm Stephens has been involved in the development and launch of dozens of new products, from automotive welding systems to consumer electronics. He has technical experience in a wide variety of industries, in both product design and manufacturing, and has personally evaluated over 250 new product ideas.

He graduated near the top of his Mechanical Engineering class at the University of Waterloo. After graduation, he took a position as Manufacturing Manager at a manufacturer of electronic air cleaners. Later, he moved to the Canadian Industrial Innovation Centre / Waterloo, where he evaluated new product concepts, and provided design engineering services to outside clients. He is also a founding partner in STETHOUR LTD, a firm which provides professional engineering and communication services to industry and the public sector.

A registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Mr. Stephens has focused his efforts on small and medium sized companies, specializing in product development and optimization, value engineering, and manufacturing strategies.

Mr. Stephens has been named on three U.S. patents, and has helped to formulate patent strategy for a number of other products. In addition, he has written several articles on licensing of patents, including one which was reprinted in the United States.

He has also been involved in giving seminars on Product Evaluation, Product Development and Teaching Entrepreneurship, and has appeared on CBC's Venture..
