Memories of toys will influence size preferences in adults,
but not always predictably, since 'size constancy' means that
an adult remembers objects as they were in proportion to the
child's smaller body and not in terms of their absolute size.
 
One quality of toys remains independent of memory: the
appeal of miniaturisation. Objects which are smaller than
expected have an instant appeal. New users of CD music
recordings invariably mention as an asset the cute 'smallness'
of the shiny disks in comparison to black vinyl records.
