ToolToy 'Feel'

The deliberate multi-sensory appeal of ToolToys is one of the
most significant ways in which they demonstrate toy values.
A ToolToy seeks to involve as many of the user's senses as
possible. Its initial appearance invites handling, so that the
user becomes involved with its other sensual qualities,
whether the satiny texture of a finish, or the aroma of fresh
paper wafting from a new book.

The shopper's urge to handle goods is an important learning
experience. As in play, tactile feedback increases the impact
of the learning experience, by rewarding an action with
a pleasurable 'response.'

When visiting a store consumer's will habitually PUSH
buttons and RUN their hand over the corner of a TV, chair or
table. The pushing of buttons is a conscious action,
premeditated and with scope: that of testing the Features - or
the Tool side of the product.

The running of the hand over surfaces is a unconscious
action, one that looks for the satisfaction of desires
associated with the Toy side of the product. As in childhood,
we can not recognize a form just by simply looking at it;
we have to touch it, we have to see it with our hands.
