Children as Adults



The same play behaviour seen in childhood continues through
adult life, without distinction for gender or culture.
 
Adults games are complex, varied, and expensive.
Not only do adult games tend to carry economic penalties, as
in gambling, but many are physically dangerous. Adults readily
risk injury or death in skiing, squash, hang-gliding and rock-
climbing. The value of play is more important.
 
Even toys actually used by children are bought for them by
adults. Adults like to buy toys, which may provide an escape
from the limits and realities of daily life, a moment of respite.
To all 'universal problems' of adulthood, a toy offers a simple
solution: itself.
 
Toys can never be regarded as simply amusements for
children.
