Human Needs

Human needs occupy an order or hierarchy of importance,
according to the model proposed by Abraham Maslow
and, often simplified to 'PSSP' for 'physiological, safety,
social and personal' needs.

Physiological needs obviously take priority, for they include
such biological imperatives as hunger, thirst and a place
to rest. Once these have been met, then the other needs
can be addressed.

Protecting physical well-being over time means that 'safety'
needs are next in the hierarchy. Taking 'safety' precautions
ensures that health, food and shelter will continue.

Social needs occupy the third level of the hierarchy, including
concern for social status, friendship, and love.

Ultimately, when other needs are met, an individual seeks
higher personal satisfaction: the uniquely human needs
for relaxation, fun and accomplishment.
