Size

Size is the second perceptual test a product must pass.
Some of the attractive chairs may seem 'too large' or 'too small'
for the intended occupant.

Perception of size is based on visual cues, unrelated to
actual measurements. Fitted items such as stoves or fridges
will be measured by the user, but only later in the process,
to confirm a selection already made.

The
'proper' size for a product is based purely on expectations.
Corporate upper managers expect to sit in chairs larger than
the chairs of middle managers, regardless of their physique.

Size preferences generally are abandoned only when new
technologies are under consideration, where past experience
has little relevance, and the selection of new wares is
too limited to permit a real choice.
