The compilers of this genealogy hope it will be merely the forerunner of a bigger and better history for which this may serve as a guide. I do wish to thank most sincerely, all who so cheerfully co-operated in supplying the information gathered. They are Bruce Abbott, June Jones, Louise Fortin, Glyn Huxter Canada. Jim Huxter USA. Sylvia Creed-Castle and Barry Lomas from England and Wales on the Huxters from England, Australia and New Zealand. I have been told that the Huxters came from Luxembourg and settled in England around 1600. The first Huxter on record was John, born about 1580. His Son Thomas was christened on March 2, 1604 at Lincoln, England. Our family tree starts 1757-1761. There are many Huxters born before 1757 but we cannot connect them to Samuel b. 1757 or William b. 1761. We also cannot find the connection between Samuel and William. |

| Sawmilling was the lifeblood of
Springdale from 1877 up to 1910. Although fishing hasn't been a large industry in Springdale for many years there was a period around 1913 in which it was an important industry in town employing about 300 men. Between 1942-60 pulpwood harvesting was a large part of Springdale's heritage. Mining or mineral exploration remains to this day one of the large contributors to the industrial heritage of the community. The opening of Whales Back Mines in the mid 1960's was likely the largest contributing factor to Springdale's growth although a significant spin-off was felt from the operation of Little Bay Mines. The Huxters moved to Springdale in 1884. This picture was taken 1950. |
