Bridport & Lyme Regis News

Members of a West Dorset family, now scattered all over the world, were brought together on Sunday after an
international manhunt on the internet. They had travelled from across the Atlantic and from all over England to
meet new-found relations and renew old acquaintances. The super sleuth who brought them all together was
Canadian Bernie Huxter who has devoted years of his life to tracking down his relative in England. Bernie is a
descendant of a Bridport native--his great-great-great grandfather William Huxter was born in the town in 1761.
There is another Huxter by the name of Samuel, born in 1757 at Stanton St. Gabriel near Bridport.
Locally the Salway Ash reunion was organized by Sylvia Creed-Castle, Helen Doble, Belinda Bailey and
Tessa Charnley. People came from many places in England including Essex and London and we had lots of
family memorabilia on show.

The reunion was one of a number of events at the weekend when family historians from across the world gathered
to hold a seminar at Lyme Regis. Organized by the Somerset and Dorset Families History Society.
