Now that is quite a title to live up to. I have already given the title of "Bible" away to another book, but this book is a very close follower. I was surprised to see it's authors are Canadian, as I am. My interest in gambling jumped to life about the same time casinos began poping up all over the province of Ontario. Lance Humble wrote this book back when counting was a new science and much of his work is centered around Las Vegas, which only makes sence.

This is the book that introduced one of the best counting systems ever produced, the Hi Opt I. Short for "Highly Optimum", the Hi Opt I focuses around the importance of the 10 cards, as did most of Thorpe's work. Giving the 10s a value of -1 this count gave the 3 to 6 cards a value of +1. Only 5 of the 10 cards of different face values had to be counted. When the player got good at this, a side count of the Aces could be added to complete this count. At the time of this book one deck games were very easily found. Ah, the good old days.

The money management information in this book is very good. It is simple to understand and very sound, as well as easy to put into practice. The Hi Opt II is mentioned, but the material required to put the entire Hi Opt II together is not there. You do understand the Hi Opt II is the next step up from the Hi Opt I, the main difference being that the 4 and 5 cards are counted as +2, the 7 is added as +1, and the 10s are counted as -2. This information about the Hi Opt II and the fact that the 4 and 5 and 10 are so important is a real teaser for you to want to buy this Hi Opt II system, or at least learn about it.

This work fills out a good Blackjack library. The information in "Million Dollar Blackjack" about the Uston APC can be used to put together the Hi Opt II system since all professional level counts are played out the same way.
