Steel straight razors were produced in Sheffield, England in the 18th and 19th century, and remained the standard style until late in the 19th century. Although supplanted fairly quickly in the early part of twentieth century by various forms of 'safety razors', they are still manufactured today and some barbers still offer razor shaves.
