Well, where do I start?......
I guess you already figured out that my name is Randy and you can tell by my pages that I am a big fan of Snowmobiling and Harley Davidson motorcycles. And, I also own my own company, RJB Towing & Storage.
But let's go back a bit.....I was born in Welland, Ontario on June 23, 1965 and lived there for quite a few years. My wife and I were down in that area a few years ago and we drove past the house I used to live in. I was amazed to see that the big flagpole that my dad installed, when I was a kid, is still standing.
When I was still young, we moved to Parry Sound, Ontario. It is in Muskoka, the heart of cottage country in Ontario.
Parry Sound holds a lot of memories for myself, my brother Rod, and my parents. We lived in a little house right on Clear Lake. Having our own beach was a lot of fun. I did all my schooling in Parry Sound and also had my first job there.
Then, I grew up (my wife is still debating that one). I moved to Toronto first and then onto Brampton. My brother moved here and there and currently lives in New Brunswick, with his girlfriend and drives tractor trailers on long hauls across Canada. My parents sold the house in Parry Sound and moved to a house just outside of a small town called Washago, which is just north of Orillia. They have since sold that house and live on Kasche Lake. My dad works for a major construction firm during the summer and plows the highways from Gravenhurst to Orillia in the winter.
I worked a lot of years at Khuene & Nagel and then went to work at Wagner Brake (now known as Cooper Automotive). That is where I met my wife, Janice. She loves how I asked her out on our first date. Janice had a storage area in the warehouse (she was in charge of the distribution of the company's promotional material). I worked on the afternoon shift and had seen her many times. One night I left a note under her storage room door. When I came in the next afternoon for my shift, there was a note outside the door for me to call her at home later. And, as they say, the rest was history.

Janice
and dated for a year or so and then got married on August 15, 1992. It was a really great wedding. Lots of good
music, friends and food! We then went on our honeymoon to Myrtle Beach which Janice loved because almost all the restaurants there serve Lobster, and she loves lobster. So do I! All in all, she is the best thing that has ever happened to me...and my parents will agree to that (I was kind of a bad kid til I met her). |
We bought our first house about six months after we were married. It was a little house in Erin, Ontario on a 1/3 acre lot. We did a lot of improvements, including building a 24' x 24' two car garage.
After two years there, we found out we were going to have a baby. So, we bought a larger home on 1 acre in Caledon East, Ontario, where we still live today.
| On July 17, 1995, after 3 false-labour
trips to the hospital in Brampton (we were still living
in the house in Erin) our little girl Megan was born. It
was scary for us all as Janice got Toxemia and her blood
pressure soared. The doctors decided that to put her
through labour would be too dangerous, for her and the
baby, so she had C-section. And at 10:10 pm I watched my
little girl be born. At 10:12 pm I had to get some fresh
air before I passed out. (Watching a c-section is worse than a Freddie Kruger movie) |

On July 28th, 10 days after Megan was born, we moved into our house in Caledon East.
Janice and I both worked for her father for many years (after leaving Wagner). He had his own lawn care company. Janice worked both in the field and in the office until she became pregnant with Megan. I worked in the field as the supervisor of the maintenance crews. Then, I needed a change and went out and bought a tow truck.
I brokered for a company for one year and then bought a newer truck and started RJB Towing & Storage. I provide towing help in all of Peel Region. I have quite a customer base in this area and have also towed to several other parts of Ontario. I like being my own boss and driving for a living. Janice loves to hear my stories about the crazy drivers out there. I get to see a lot of them in my business!
Janice continued to work for her father until he decided to retire in 1998. She then started her own company, Docu-Type Administrative & Web Design Services. She provides virtual office assistance to local companies and worldwide, specializing in word processing, desktop publishing and website development. And, she is very good at what she does! All of her customers are very happy with everything she does for them. She has even had some of her articles printed in local papers, in Internet newsletters, and is a regular contributor to Business Woman Canada magazine. Also, she writes a monthly newsletter called "Virtual TidBits" that she sends out to her newsletter recipients. She has also won several prestigious awards for her business. Check her website for more information.
I've found a new passion to do in the summer....demolition derbies! I got an old scrap car in 1998 and decided to enter the derby at the Brampton Fall Fair. We only had a week to get the car ready, but my buddy Brian and I did it and off we went. Janice had made some great templates of our company's names which we painted on the car, so we even got to do a little advertising. Janice, Megan and my parents were in the stands, and even over the roaring engines and the fact that none of the cars had exhaust systems, I could still hear Megan yelling, "Daddy, Daddy. That's my daddy". Janice says she and everyone else had a blast watching grown men (?) smash into each other on purpose. I have since entered two or three derbies a year.
And me...well, besides feeling like I had whiplash, I loved it!!!! I even made it through to the final round. A tow truck friend of mine won. He always wins! He's been at it for years.
I have since entered two or three derbies a year.
Stay tuned, maybe I'll add another page with the pics from it....(there's a thought)
So, besides the fact that we have 1 cat and 1 dog (Megan's best friend), there isn't much else to tell you about me and my family. My wife has a lot more pics and information on her The Byer Family Resource page. Take a look!
