Can you relate to this? Are you dreaming of that first good snowfall?

I know I am. There is nothing like snowmobiling and 'flying' over those huge snow drifts. What a rush!!

For many, snowmobiling is just something different to do during the winter. For myself, and many others in snowmobile country, snowmobiling is the ultimate way to get around in the winter.

Some snowmobilers prefer one of two different ways to ride...fast or furious. But, most like it both ways. Run the trails as fast as you can and try every possible obstacle that you ride up on.

My buddy and I love to get out on our machines as much as possible (my wife would go so far as to say we live to get out on our sleds). Below, on the left , is a picture of my current sled (with any luck and a mess load of trying to persuade my wife, I can get a new one this year). On the right is a picture of my buddy's sled (ditto on the wife thing).

POLARIS ULTRA 680®

POLARIS INDY 500®

I'm not the only on in our little family who likes to go sledding. On the right is picture of myself and my daughter Megan, who was three when this picture was taken in December, 1998.

Megan loves to get on the sled with daddy. One day I will have to get her a machine of her own.

Long haul trips are something that myself and my uncle John do every year. Sure, I go on trips with my buddies, but the trips with John and his buddies are usually pretty good.

On the left is a picture of my Uncle John (in the front) and his brother Henry on our latest trip to Cochrane, Ontario. Some of the best sledding in Ontario is around the Cochrane area. And, you can get to Quebec's trails from there as well.

Any veteran snowmobiler, especially those in Ontario, know of the RAP. Doing the RAP is sledding all the way around Algonquin Park. This is an excellent trip. If you love to sled, you have to try this at least once. Depending on the speed of your machine, any unforeseen obstacles, and whether you like to cruise or fly, will depend how long it takes to do these trails.

For us, it usually takes around 4 days (give or take a few hours for recovering from hangovers). Yup, we like to have some indoor fun too!

We have a lot of great stories about our trips, and we have some that aren't so great. Read about our January 1997 trip, then you be the judge.
