Paper Money has its own problems associated with restoration. Bills are taped, folded, Bleached, written on with pen and pencil, soiled and otherwise abused. But with a little care may of these defects can be lessened if not eliminated. Piece replacement is not usually completed satisfactorily, the fine micro printing of the intaglio printing process is impossible to duplicate so it looks natural when set into the note. ( I'm well aware that counterfeiters have hand drawn notes but they didn't reproduce fine micro printing only the impression of it and they didn't have to match it into a real note)

Tape and adhesive residue can be removed, dirt, stains and ink marks can be treated and the note pressed.
