Tarrant entered the series at the end of episode 27. He was a Federation
Captain who found the Liberator adrift after the Galactic war; its crew
had to leave whilst the repair circuits went to work.
He joined the crew when he turned out to be an outlaw too, using the
Galactic war to salvage ships. He was trained by the Federation, but went
AWOL after leaving the academy.
He replaced Blake as Avon's argument partner, almost a battle of wills
for the leadership of the group. Avon would often play along, allowing
Tarrant to rush into dangerous situations, before clearing things up himself.
Tarrant was very impetuous, and given to making rash decisions with little
thought. Fortuanatly, his skill as a pilot endured him to the crew.
Dayna Mellanby
Played by Josette Simon - Episodes 27-52.
Dayna is the weapons expert, constantly designed new weapons, bigger
and better ways to kill people. Driven on by a desire to kill Servelan
after seeing her father killed by the Federation leader.
She grew up on the planet Sarran, where her father Hal was in hiding.
He was a Federation scientist, but started to supply weapons to the rebels.
He fled when questioned by Federation troops - his eyes destroyed by their
tactics.
Dayna was young and idealistic, and joins Avon after having no-where
else to go. Her weapons skills were used in many episodes...though where
she carried them is unclear!
Soolin
Played by Glynis Barber - Episodes 40-52.
Soolin joined the crew in episode 41, although she was also in episode
40, with her companion Dorian.
As a child she grew up on Gauda Prime, with her farming parents. But
the planet was declared an "open planet" by the Federation -
a suspension of all planetary laws. This allowed the scum of the galaxy
to move in and loot all the valuable minerals - and kill all the farmers,
including Soolin's parents.
Not much else is known about Soolin, except that she is a very fast gunslinger.
One time even beating a computer programmer to be faster than any opponent.
Slave/Scorpio
Voiced by Peter Tuddenham - Episodes 40-52.
The Liberator - Episodes 40-52.
Slave is the Scorpio's on board computer. Highly modified, a very complex
machine, but it was given s strange personality - very meek, and with
a severe inferiority complex.
Programmed to call everyone Master, it was always full of apologies when
it could not comply with its orders. Avon always liked Slave, his sort
of machine.
Scorpio was originally owned by Dorian, the group's saviour in episode
40. A Mark II Wanderer Class planet hopper, Scorpio was in bad shape.
A slow, rackety bucket of bolts in needed a lot of attention, although
it was fitted with an attempt at a teleporter - a failed attempt.
Dorian was killed, and the crew took over Scorpio and its base on the
planet Xenon. Avon managed to get the teleporter working and a super fast
drive system was aquired. Slowly, Scorpio became a decent ship.
The ship was to meet its doom by crashing into Gauda Prime after Tarrant,
in a desperate move to loose chasing pirate ships, dives the ship into
the atmosphere. Unfortunatly, there wasn't enough power to escape the
dive.
