Aftermath - Episode 27Written by Terry NationThe intergalactic war is over with humanity having prevailed, but major losses are felt throughout the galaxy. The Federation's fleet is decimated, Star One has been destroyed and the Liberator is badly damaged. So major are the required repairs and with the life support failing, the crew have no option but to temporarily abandon ship until the auto-repair circuits can restore the ship. Blake and Jenna head off together in an escape capsule as Avon, Cally and Vila struggle to escape the damaged ship. After a small explosion, Avon is rendered unconscious, but Cally and Vila manage to get him into his capsule - along with Orac - and launch him to safety. Avon's capsule lands on Sarran, a remote planet inhabited by a developing race of people, still in their tribal period. After a brief fight with a native, he is rescued by Dayna, who takes him to a place of refuge. She reveals she, her father and he sister live on the planet in an underground base, after fleeing from the Federation. They return to the crash site to collect Orac, then begin the journey to the base's entrance. But they are surprised by Servalan, who has also crashed on the planet. Dayna warns them of an approaching group of Sarrans, so they quickly run to the bases entrance, shutting themselves in. Dayan takes Servalan to get cleaned up as Avon meets Hal Mellanby. Once Avon reveals who he is, Mellanby talks about his past. A Federation weapons expert who was supplying guns to the resistance fighters. He was pulled in by the authorities and questioned about his actions, loosing his eyesight during the process. He now has to wear a special seeing device on his chest to give him partial eyesight. His hope is that Servalan doesn't remember who he is. The base is attacked by the Sarrans, so Mellanby, Dayna and he sister Lauren head out of a second exit to investigate. Using a painful energy beam, they drive them off, but Lauren waits behind to make sure they do not return. Avon is left alone in the base and activates Orac, using his carrier wave to communciate with Zen. Repairs are proceding well and the crew have begun to call in. Blake is uninjured but his locator was out of action. Jenna is onboard a hospital ship with superficial injuries, but her location is also unknown. Neither Vila or Cally have reported in. Avon orders the Liberator to hurry in and pick him up; to operate the teleport as soon as it enters orbit. Zen also notes that an unknown ship is about to dock. Avon almost orders it destroyed, but holds back, thinking it might be Vila or Cally returning. The communication link with Zen is cut as the ship docks. Avon and Dayna retire for the night, leaving Mellanby alone, waiting for Lauren. She won't return however, as she has been captured by the Sarran leader. Servalan enters and heads towards Orac, but Mellanby is ready for her, gun in hand. She reveals she knows who he is and she convinces him the Federation is finished. Just as he lowers his gun, she produces her own, blowing his electronic seeing device away. She taunts him for a short while, before shooting him again and taking off with Orac. Mellanby's dying breath is to warn Avon and Dayna, who come running in. They head out, searching for Servalan. On their hunt, they come across Lauren, dead and tied to a stake. Servalan has hidden Orac but is soon caught by the Sarrans and tied, like Lauren, to a stake. Avon heads to get her back, knowing he must have Orac. She refuses to disclose Orac's hiding place until Avon hands her his teleport bracelet. Once free, she leads them to the buried Orac, which they soon recover. Servalan is distracted by the attacking Sarrans, allowing Avon and Dayna to recover the bracelet, just as they are teleported to the Liberator. Servalan rushes back to the underground base, to await her rescue. Once onboard the Liberator, Avon relaxes, only to be surprised by Tarrant, a Federation Captain, who demands to know what they are doing onboard his salvaged ship!
Powerplay - Episode 28Written by Terry Nation Avon and Dayna have arrived back on the newly repaired Liberator, only to find it is already occupied by Federation troops, lead by Captain Tarrant and Section Leader Klegg and another guard, Harmon. The small group of Federation troops had boarded the ship and attempted to take control, but none of the systems would respond. The ship appeared to be following a fixed course. Avon bluffs his way round the investigation, saying they docked some time ago, exhausted from the intergalatic battle and had settled into a cabin to rest. Tarrant guides them to the flight deck, explaining that every hour a distress call comes in and the ship alters course, homing in on the beacon. Klegg wants them to speak to Zen, to see if it reacts to their voice patterns, proving if they are part of the original crew. Avon refuses, stating he is a loyal Federation citizen and does not deserve to be treated this way. Klegg insists though and Dayna talks Zen and is cleared, but before Avon can speak, Tarrant smashes him and Dayna over the head with his gun, claming they were about to go for a weapon. Avon and Dayna are dragged off to a cabin to recover, just as Vila makes contact with the ship. Vila is on a strange planet; his arm is hurt and he's very nervous. Animal noises are coming from the surrounding forest and he starts talking to himself, hoping to give the illusion of having many armed men with him. It doesn't work though, as one of the natives, Lom, surprises him. Lom is friendly and helps to fix Vila's arm as the silent Mall also comes into view. They reveal they are in danger from hunters and must more to a more secure place. Back on the Liberator, Avon and Dayna come round in the cabin. Avon manages to break the lock, but they soon discover a dead Federation guard outside their cabin. They run off, as Klegg and Tarrant enter, finding the body. Avon and Dayna enter an inspection tunnel, which links up with other tunnels leading all over the ship. The scene switches to a strange shaped ship coming into land on a planet. Its a hospital ship and one of the many patients is Cally, lying on a bed wearing a face guard, repairing some minor skin burns. Her nurse reveals they have collected sixty four survivors from the space battle and after this pickup they will be heading home to the planet Chenga - a neutral planet. The ship rocks again as they take off, having picked up their passenger, who turns out to be Servalan. Avon and Dayna head to the escape capsule area and Avon begins to check then for damage. However, they mistakenly left their inspection tunnel visible and its discovered by Harmon and another guard. Harmon rushes off to get the others and when they lift the cover from the tunnel, all they discover is the dead guard. Dayna then fires her gun to get the guards attention and Avon launches a life capsule and they then rush back to their original cabin, knowing they should be safe there for a while. Vila, Lom and Mall are being hunted by some strange creature. Mall notes there are two of them and suddenly Lom is hit by a blow dart, falling unconscious. Mall picks him up and hurries off, with Vila trailing in his wake. He's soon lost and cornered by the hunters, who turn out to be two women, Zee and Barr. They explain they collect the natives and bring them into the city, then help them adjust to a more civilised way of life, which Vila approves of. They fix his arm properly and head off to the city, promising him food. Avon is trying to work out who is killing the Federation troops. He also knows he must get to the flight deck to find out where the ship is heading. Leaving Dayna in the cabin he stealthily finds his way to the flight deck. He quizzes Zen on the system status which reveals the ship is now fully functional and is following the rescue programme. Blake has made contact and is safe and enroute to Epheron. Jenna has some injuries, and is on a cargo ship heading for Morphenniel. Cally hasn't been able to make contact, but Vila is in grave danger on the planet Chenga. Zen is therefore giving his rescue the highest priority and will be able to teleport him up in just over 3 hours. Avon leaves the flight deck as an unconscious Dayna is dragged in. Avon is also caught entering the cabin, by Harmon and Tarrant, who reveals he has suspected who Avon is from the start. A fight ensues, but Avon is surprised when Tarrant kills Harmon. Tarrant reveals he is a Federation trained pilot turned smuggler, who has been wanted by the Federation for a long time. He came across the uniform after the battle, giving him a higher rank than Klegg - much to Klegg's annoyance. But as Avon and Tarrant are discussing what to do, they are overheard by another Federation guard who runs off to inform Klegg. Back on Chenga, Vila enters the domed city and begins to get his barings. Cally also enterers and they are both ushered to a medical facility to have their wounds checked. Servalan herself stays behind, demanding to talk to the rulers of the city. She goes back and finds Cally and Vila, who by now have been given special medicine and are laying on two hospital beds. Servalan reveals she now knows the basis of Chenga and why they searched the battle area for survivors. They are collecting human tissue and organs for their own use. Vila and Cally find they are paralised and are prepared for surgery. On the Liberator, Klegg has gathered his remaining troops and Dayna in the teleport area, waiting for Avon and Tarrant to show up. Avon goes in and surrenders, offering to help capture Tarrant. As Tarrant comes in, Avon appears to give his gun to Klegg, but instead starts a fight, with Dayna, Tarrant and Avon overcoming the Federation troops. Just as Cally and Vila are about to be killed, the Liberator comes into orbit and they are teleported onboard to safety. Avon now has Cally and Vila back and Tarrant and Dayna are introduced to Zen, becoming full crew members of the Liberator.
Volcano - Episode 29Written by Allan Prior This episode begins with Tarrant and Dayna teleporting down to the planet Obsidian, looking for new recruits. The planet is strange in that is has an Volcano in the centre of the planet, slowly simmering away for the last 20 years. The planet was also unscathed during the Galactic war; no space ship debris can be found on the surface. For some reason, the Federation surveyed the planet, then decided to stay away and Avon wants to know why. There is also a rumour that Blake has also visited the planet. Tarrant and Dayna begin to search for the local settlements, skirting around the Volcano. However, the rulers of the planet have already detected the Liberator in orbit. The leader, Hower, decides to leave the search party alone for now, but his son, Bershar has other ideas and sets up an ambush for Dayna and Tarrant, who are soon rendered unconscious. Hower disciplines Beshar when the two are brought before him. This is a planet of peace and violence is not acceptable. They soon wake up and find their guns and communicator bracelets missing. Dayna explains that she's the daughter of Hal Melanby, who was in the Federation science complex with Hower and begins to explain their reasons for coming to Obsidian. Meanwhile, Servalan is closing on the planet with her own forces. She orders Mori to take the Liberator and somehow she already knows Tarrant and Dayna are on the planet surface. On the Liberator, Vila is getting worried. Avon reveals to Cally and Vila that a detector beam eminated from the planet on their arrival. On the planet, Tarrant and Dayna are making their pitch for new recruits, explaning about the power of the Liberator and the need for a base to launch the revolt against the Federation, but Hower is unmoved. He's not seen Blake on the planet, and wishes to remain strictly outside the Federation and the revolution's battles. Tarrant can't understand this, knowing the planet is ripe for invasion by the Federation. Avon is had enough of waiting and teleports down to the surface and begins to use a tracking device to locate Tarrant and Dayna. But once down, the Liberator also loosed contact with Avon, which they believe to be some form of interference caused by the Volcano. Servalan has also landed on Obsidian, along with Mori and more Federation guards. She meets up with one of the natives, who gives her a message. She then orders them killed, but none of them attempt to run. Tarrant and Basher discuss the Volcano and head off to view the control complex, leaving Dayna and Hower alone with the serving robot. Hower reveals that the reason the natives are so anti-violence is due to electro-shock therapy from birth. They treat everyone and coach non-violence with daily psychological propaganda blocking all aggressive tendencies. There is no war, no in-fighting and no crime, the planet is always at peace. Avon comes across the dead natives, recognising the Federation's weapon marks. He spots Mori and his troops and quickly teleports back to the ship. In the control complex, Tarrant is questioning Basher, recognising he doesn't totally believe the planet is safe from attack. Basher then surprises Tarrant by asking if he knows a woman called Servalan. Basher gives Tarrant and Dayna their teleport bracelets back and escorts them to the surface, where they are quickly captured by Mori and his troops - who were tipped off by Basher. Someone contacts the Liberator, but the voice is difficult to make out. Vila panics and operates the teleport and four Federation troopers appear and capture Vila and Cally. Avon is on the flight deck, when Zen suddenly warns him of eight approaching Federation pursuit ships closing at attack speed. Avon prepares the ship for combat as Vila argues with his captures, who know all about the attack. Cally attempts to warn Avon telepathically as Avon and the battle computers manage to destroy one of the pursuit ships. Avon is confused however, as the pursuit ships are in range but are not firing. The answer comes soon as Mori enteres the flight deck, gun aimed at Avon. The Liberator is soon under Mori's control. Mori is admiring Orac when Avon issues a fire command to Zen. The Liberator's main blasters fire, then the ship accelerates and in the confusion Avon grabs a gun and kills two troopers. Avon is wounded as the pursuit ships, now beliving the take over has failed begin to attack the Liberator. Mori gets worried, grabs Orac and runs to the teleport section. He grabs Cally and orders Vila to teleport them down and despite Cally's objections, Vila complies. The pursuit ships break off their attack as Vila rushes to help Avon. When Servalan contacts the ship, looking for Mori, Vila attempts to bluff her, telling her all the crew are onboard and are now targetting her ship. Servalan believes him and heads back to Space Command. When Avon comes round, Vila, a drink in hand, explains what happened. A mess, as Avon calls it. On the planet, Basher is panicking, knowing his plans have failed, but that the battle fleet will return. Hower enters and is upset at Basher, knowing he overcame his conditioning and broke his vow of peace. For this, he shoots him dead. Hower reveals that all the natives are dying from radiation poisening, caused by a huge nuclear device buried deep in the planet's core. This is why the Federation stayed away, one press of a button and the planet is totally destroyed. Now that they are going to return, he will destroy the planet. Tarrant and Dayna close on Cally's location and using her telepathic abilities to warn them of the location of the guards, they close in and free Cally and Orac. They teleport back to the Liberator and try to leave orbit, but the ship's energy banks are drained from the battle. As the Federation fleet attacks, the planet is destroyed, shaking the Liberator through its force walls and destroying the battle fleet.. When the Liberator's banks are charged enough, they make their escape.
Dawn of the Gods - Episode 30Written by James Follett The Liberator is sailing through space as the crew try to relax with a few games, when the ship starts to deviate from its course. Initially, Tarrant can't find any answers - all the ship's systems are operating perfectly - and the ship now begins to accelerate. They close in on sector 12, a totally uncharted area of the galaxy as Tarrant shuts down the main drive to help determine their course. They soon realise they are heading for a black hole - and cannot change course. This black hole is significant in that it doesn't emit x-rays and Orac found this curious. So he decided to take a closer look and reprogrammed the flight controls to bring the ship in closer. As they get closer, alarms go off as the speed and power drain pull down the ships shields, massive distortion is felt, but suddenly there is quiet. The Liberator is still and the crew begin to come round - all bar Cally. The ship appears to have moved through the centre of the black hole; no space co-ordinates can be gathered and Orac has taken control of the ship. As Cally recovers, someone called The Thaarn reaches out to her telepatically, an image from a childhood story. On the flight deck, Tarrant and Avon begin to look for answers. Tarrant fires off two shots from the main blasters, but the shots rebound back to the ship. Cally appears back on the flight deck, seemingly recovered and Avon decides that they need to look around outside - sending Vila out in a space suit. Vila exits the ship, and finds them on solid ground. Debris from old spacecraft litter the area but Vila is suddenly attacked and looses contact with the Liberator. Tarrant also goes outside and finds Vila, sitting up, having discovered there is a breathable atmosphere. They re-enter the ship and perform some scans on some of the debris. All the hurculanium has been stripped from the debris - which is the same metal the Liberator's hull is manufactured from. The crew know whoever pulled the ship here will come back for the metal in the hull. Cally, Avon, Vila and Tarrant move outside the ship, as something approaches, lights flashing. It turns out to be a small buggy, with a man onboard - Caliph. He reveals they are on Krandor, an artifical planet ruled by Thaarn. He tells them he is the negotiator for compensation for the Liberator. They refuse, but are soon captured, as is Dayna. In their cell, Cally reveals that Thaarn is an old God of Auron, her home planet. He became jealous of the telepathic power the Auronites were given, and killed one of his fellow gods. The five gods then sent him beyond space and time - where the Liberator's crew appear to find themselves now. Avon and Tarrant are put to work with Groff, working on a gravity generation system which needs the herculanium. Groff is from a frontier world, who was also pulled into the planet Krandor. Meanwhile, Cally is being questioned by the Thaarn, who reveals to her his plans. He wants to use his new gravity generator to move planets and stars, to control the galaxy. Two guards who enter the Liberator looking for Orac are killed by Zen's self defense system. Cally persuades the Thaarn to switch off his protection systems, so she can see him for real. But as he does, she begins to fire with her gun. This also gives Avon and Tarrant time to escape. Groff helps, by trying to force the gravity generator into reverse. They all manage to reach the Liberator as Groff moves the switch, throwing the Liberator back into normal space and to freedom.
The Harvest of Kairos - Episode 31Written by Ben Steed The Liberator is being harried by Federation pursuit ships as Avon and Vila are searching for a special rock on an strange planet. Servalan is curious as to why Tarrant hasn't run, but before she can order the attack, one of her aides - Dastor - tells her that a man called Jarvik is questioning her ability to capture the Liberator. She sends for him as she begins her attack. Avon and Vila teleport back to the Liberator, which begins to run. Avon however, holds up the escape by ordering Zen to analyse the rock, which he says is Sopron - nonorganic, silicon-based, and registering high electronic activity. Tarrant finally gets his way and uses Zen to plot a way out using the battle computers. However, as the pursuit ships close in on his only way out, Tarrant deliberately ignores the computer's advice, and escapes through new holes appearing in the attack. Javis has arrived in Servalan's control room and is not surprised to see Tarrant escaping. He announces he could capture the Liberator with three pursuit ships. He tells her that Tarrant is a man, not a machine and doesn't always follow the battle computer's suggestions - allowing him to out-think them. He knows that Tarrant would now be heading for Kairos. Tarrant is busy explaining about Kairos to the rest of the crew. The forth planet in Xymines' system, known for the growth of Kairopan - a very expensive crystal like substance. Every year there is a harvest, which lasts just one week, and the Kairopan is shipped back to the Federation in a small shuttle. No one knows wht the harvest is only one week, but most know there is something dangerous down on the planet. Tarrant's idea is to hijack this shuttle and help themselves to the valuable assets. Tarrant used to work on the escort for the shuttle, so he knows its weaknesses. Everyone seems okay with the idea, except Avon, who is busy with Orac and the Sopron. Orac grudingly admits the rock has a greater capacity for reasoning than he does - something Avon is very pleased to hear. They agree to go for the Kairopan, but Servalan gives Jarvik his three Mark Ten pursuit ships and orders him to capture the Liberator. The Liberator closes in on Kairos as the shuttle is launched. The three pursuit ships close on her, guided by Jarvik back at Space Command. The Liberator is hit and Tarrant is shocked to find Cally missing from her station. She is with Avon, studying the Sopron. She finds it to be an image of her mother or her father, she's not sure. Tarrant bursts in and grabs Cally, forcing her back to the flight deck. Avon, however, is not impressed with Tarrant, and continues to work on the Sopron. The Liberator manages to destroy the three pursuit ships, much to Servalan's anger. As the Liberator docks with the shuttle, she turns her anger onto Jarvik, who assures her she will have the Liberator if she is a little more patient. The Liberator's crew begin to load the huge crates of Kairopan into the Liberator's holds, not knowing that Federation guards are hiding inside. After a short time, as Servalan is about to send Jarvik to trial, Captain Shad teleports in. Shad, the Federation guard's leader, has secured the Liberator. Servalan and Shad teleport across to the Liberator and she quickly heads to the flight deck, where the rest of the crew are being held. She quickly orders Dayna killed, unless she is given voice control of the Liberator. Avon gives in, but insists that before any command can be given, the crew must be taken to the nearest planet with suitable Earth-like conditions and teleported to the surface. It isn't until Servalan issues the command that Avon realises the nearest planet is Kairos. The crew is teleported to Kairos and Avon heads off on his own. Dayna and Vila stumble across some Kariopan, which Dayna puts into her pocket. Tarrant and Cally find a number of dead bodies, all with their clothes torn. The soon hear Avon calling and the begin to run to his calls. Avon has found a large hanger with a small space craft inside. It appears to be landing module of some kind, designed to move from the planet to a mother ship. Tarrant begins working on getting it into orbit. Meanwhile Jarvik has teleported down, looking for the crew so he can get their teleport bracelets. After a brief fight, he gets all bar Dayna's bracelet. But as they are fighting a huge Kairos creature advances, looking for the Kairopan it eats. Jarvik and Dayna teleport back to the Liberator, as the remaining crew run for the space module. Tarrant launches the module as Servalan orders Zen to destroy the planet's surface. Avon begins to simulate his Sopron rock with the control systems and explains that Sopron is a distorting mimic - Zen thought it was a capacity charged brain, Orac thought it was a computer, Cally saw her mother. Now the Liberator's sensors think the space module is a high technology space cruiser with a higher assault capacity than the Liberator. Jarvik tries to get Servalan to ignore the computer and use her own eyes, but she refuses and orders Dayna killed as she leaves the Liberator. Jarvik tries to stop them but is killed himself. Dayna points out that only she can manage the teleport to get Servalan off, so her life is saved. Servalan is teleported off the shiop and the rest of the crew rejoin Dayna on the flight deck.
City at the Edge of the World - Episode 32Written by Chris Boucher The Liberator crew desperately needs to find some special crystals for the ship's weaponry system, so Tarrant makes a deal with the natives of an old planet to collect the rare crystals. In exchange, they are to lend them Vila for a special task. Vila is true to form and against leaving the ship, but after being threatened by Tarrant, agrees to teleport to what Orac now calls the planet Kezarn. On Vila's arrival, he's met by two of the natives - silent and serene. They lead him through the hills to their city. Cally teleports down to collect the crystals - kept in a small box. But Avon is suspicious, so Cally fires her gun ata nearby rockface, spilling some loose rubble onto the box - which prompty explodes. She teleports back to the Liberator, but now they have no crystals and no Vila. Vila arrives at the strange city to find it apparently deserted. After wandering around for a short while he comes across Kerril, a woman dressed in battle fatigues who escorts Vila to meet with Bayban. Known as Bayban the Beserker and Bayban the Butcher, who claims to have been working his way up the Federation's wanted list long before Blake came onto the scene. Bayban explains that he tricked Tarrant into delivering Vila so that he could open a special locked door. All the natives say is that behind it is "It contains this world and the next". Bayban believes this means that all the planets jewels and money is held behind that door. Which is why he wants Vila to open it. Avon and Cally teleport down and begin to look for Vila. They head towards the only settlement in the area. All of the natives the encounter, however, politely ignore them. They seem totally disinterested in the two from the Liberator. Meanwhile Vila has begun to work on the locked door, watched by Kerril. Vila explains that its not really a door at all, but a force wall made to reflect all energy back. He sets up a laser probe with the correct energy set up and sits back to wait. Kerril asks him how he knew she was there watching him... and Vila badly tries to lie, knowing he smelled her first! Kerril returns to Vila, all cleaned up and dresses in a new outfit, which Vila finds very alluring. He is almost unable to keep his eyes off her, but has too as suddenly the force wall collapses, leading to a dark corridor. Vila and Kerril venture in, just as the force wall re-appears. Vila isn't worried, feeling certain that whoever built the force wall wouldn't hurt them. They continue down the corridor, as back outside, Avon and Cally capture three of Bayban's guards and question them on the location of Vila. Bayban is furious regarding Vila and Kerril's sudden dissapearance. He quickly orders the city searched, but the guards fail to find them. So he orders his ship's laser cannon be brought to the city. Vila and Kerril approach another door, which leads to a small room. Kerril ventures in and dissapears and despite Vila's misgivings, he follows too, through a form of teleport system, arriving in a brightly lit room. A voice booms out, explaining that they are now on a space ship, programmed to look fora new world for the natives. If it has landed, the outer door will open and trigger both ends of the teleport system to do the same. As there seems no way out, the ship must still be in space - trapping Vila and Kerril. Back on the Liberator, Avon and the remaining crew are planning how to get past Bayban. Using Orac to operate the teleport, all 4 crew members teleport to the surface. They begin to fight the guards, with some of Dayna's extra explosives helping out. Meanwhile Vila is confused as to why they are still alive. The air should have run out. He realises that the outer door is open, but is blocked by another forcewall - one that allows air to bleed through it. Grabbing a special tool he brings the forcewall down, revealing a new planet. With the crew winning the battle against Bayban's forces, they manage to surprise Bayban. Dayna is left to guard him as they try to find Vila. He is relaxing on the new planet, and manages to find some of the special crystals he came her to get. Kerril is disappointed, surprised to see that Vila wants to go back. Reluctanly, Kerril agrees to return, and they soon appear before a startled Liberator crew. As the return the whole city lights up and the natives begin to enter, using the newly opened gateway to head to their new home. The city starts to break down, explosives going off and Bayban manages to escape - heading for his ship. Kerril wants to go with the natives and asks Vila to go with her. Avon gives him a teleport bracelet and tells him they will wait on the ship. Vila tells Kerril he can't go with her - as there isn't anything to steal. He is a thief and its the only thing he's good at, its part of who he is and needs it to be happy. He has to stay with the Liberator. She kisses him, and heads off, causing the forcewall to reappear. Bayban comes back in, screaming with rage, and jumps on the laser cannon. Vila tries to warn him, knowing the force wall will reflect the energy back. He manages to teleport just in time, as the city is destroyed. Once onboard the Liberator, Tarrant is quick to apologise for forcing him to teleport down, and Vila then reveals the crystals he found on the new planet - ideal for the Liberator's weapons.
Children of Auron - Episode 33Written by Roger Parkes In deep space, Servalan's ship closes on a small C-Type patrolling ship from Auron. They surreptitiously disable the Auronite's ship and bring it on board. When the pilot meets with Servalan, she gives him a special liquid to drink, which carries a plague infectious to the Aurons. The pilot is then sent on his way... heading for Auron. As the ship closes on Auron, the flight controllers are unable to make contact with the ship - the pilot is now dead, his skin covered in weeping sores. But the flight control continues to bring the ship - landing it on automatics. The scene cuts to the Liberator, where the ship's crew have been discussing revenge. They are on a direct course for Earth, where Avon wants to find someone called Shrinker - a Federation investigator - who Avon has a personal score to settle. But Cally begins to receive a powerful mind contact with her people on Auron. She feels they are dying and must go to help. On Auron, they deduce the plague is caused by an alien pathogen, left over from the intergalactic war. Cally's sister, Zelda, is still on Auron and it is her sending the call for help to Cally. Despite Avon's feelings of a trap, they set course for Auron. Servalan's ship closes on Auron and she begins to discuss her plans with Deral and Ginka, her current advisors. She points out the bio-replication plants, which are used to clone the people of Auron. Deral understands, realising she wants to use these clone plants herself, although she's adamant her real reason for infecting Auron is to gain control of the Liberator. Her ship contacts Auron and offers medical aid and is soon docked on the planet. On the Liberator, Avon and Tarrant are utilizing Orac to gain information on the current Auron situation. Orac reveals that the cloning system - developed by Clinician Franton - is the reason for the Auron's telepathy. Auron has been isolated for so long, that the inhabitants have no resistance to disease. The Liberator closes on Auron, but she is already spotted by Servalan's ship. Clinician Franton's daughter heads onto Servalan's ship and is soon cured of the plague. They explain that the disease alters itself depending on the host tissue, so that all the infected will have to board Servalan's ship to be cured, rather than setting up a treatment facility on Auron. Meanwhile, Avon, Cally, Tarrant and Dayna teleport down to Auron, with Dayna quickly returning with Patar, an infected Auron whom they hope to treat with Orac's help. Servalan heads to the bio-replication plant, where Zelda and Franton are working to save the tissue banks - so far unaffected by the plague. She demands to use some of the plant's replication banks, in payment for her medical aid. They reluctantly agree to her request. Elsewhere, Tarrant, Avon and Cally are concerned to hear of the other ship which is giving aid - but they are soon jumped by Ginka, who takes their weapons and teleport bracelets. Servalan gives her blood sample and leaves, heading back to the control complex, where she knows Avon will be, leaving Deral on guard. On the Liberator, Orac has found a cure and Dayna prepares to teleport down, when she also is shocked to hear of another ship giving aid. Servalan contacts the ship and tries to persuade Vila to surrender. After a short discussion with Dayna, Vila requests that Servalan teleport up to discuss things, but she instead sends Deral. He is soon captured, however, by Dayna. Franton heads to the control complex, and helps Avon, Tarrant and Cally escape. They head for the bio-replication centres, the only place they know they will be safe. Servalan is now on back on her own ship, and quickly orders the control complex destroyed, furious that the Liberator's crew is again slipping through her fingers. Ginka insists on firing at the clone centres and tells Servalan that Deral switched her blood sample of his own. Aghast, she orders the centres destroyed. Dayna teleports down and provides bracelets to the other crew members and Franton, but Zelda rips hers off as they teleport up, insisting on staying with the growing foetuses. The centre is destroyed and to Servalan's shock she feels her offspring die. Knowing Ginka lied, she kills him instantly. The Liberator sets off, to deliver Franton and her surviving batch of cloned cells to a new planet capable of sustaining life.
