TRAINING OF THE CORPS
AIMS OF THE ARMY CADET PROGRAM
To develop in youth the attributes of good
citizenship and leadership; to promote physical fitness: and to stimulate
the interest of youth in the land element of the Canadian Forces.
THE STAR PROGRAM
The day to day classes of the corps go towards
one of the star levels. At the end of each training year the cadets must
write an exam in order to recieve the star that they have been working
on all year. The star program goes as below:
EX-ROYAL FREEZE
The corps also participates in weekend excersizes
at CFB Borden. The most recent took place in February, excersize Royal
Freeze. The advance party arrived on base around 1000hrs on the Friday
in order to recieve equipment from the base stores Main Supply Account
(MSA). The advance party organized and distributed the equipment accordingly
when the rest of the cadets arrived later that evening. The first night
was spent in barracks and the cadets were to be bussed out to the bivouac
area early in the morning after breakfast. The day saw a huge navigation
excersize after all of the equipment was unloaded and lunch was eaten.
This nav lasted most of the afternoon and most of the evening for others
who got lost. That evening the cadets set up their arctic tents, had some
supper, and got some well needed sleep. All except for Cdt. Fisher, who
had broken her leg sometime that afternoon and taken to Stevenson Memorial
Hospital in Angus. On Sunday morning the cadets started to pack everything
away and head back to base to return the equipment. All in all, the cadets
had a great time and all of the training was completed. Therefore the excersize
was a success.
