Welcome
to my Crabtree webpage. Here you can gain access to the index of
all Crabtrees, male and female, who were married in England and Wales from the start
of civil registration in July 1837 until December 1899.
So
far, the tables for the years from July 1837 to Dec 1894 are attached.
Subsequent years will be added progressively as I get them ready. I hope these tables will enable you to
find that missing spouse more quickly. In some cases, the spouse may actually
be named here!
In the attached list, which
can be accessed by clicking on the relevant years of "Crabtree
Marriages" below, you will find the Registration District in which the
marriage took place given in the second column. The reference numbers appear in
the next two columns (the Volume # in the third column, and the Page # in the
fourth). Where it is known, the spouse's name is shown in the fifth column.
The
information, which has been extracted from the marriage indexes of the General
Register Office, is Crown copyright, and is published here by permission of the
Controller of HMSO and the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The
records given here must not be copied on, transferred or reproduced without the
prior permission of the ONS.
There
are two other limitations that I wish to draw to your attention. Firstly,
while I have taken as much care as possible in transcribing the information, I
cannot guarantee its accuracy and completeness; you should therefore check the
references when matching spouses. Secondly, the ONS makes the same
disclaimer for the accuracy and completeness of the indexes themselves, which
are known to be poor for the early years of civil registration. All
entries published here relate to records over 100 years old.
Finally,
I have a couple of requests. Please let me know if you find any
errors. Also, when you find the match for any of the Crabtree spouses
listed, please send me an e-mail with the information so that I can add the
name to this list. In this way, you will be helping other researchers of
the Crabtree surname in their ancestral quests.
