The Willowdale Redwings Major Peewee “AA” team, under the auspices of the girls’ hockey program established in 1996 by the Willowdale Sports Club, is one of four Willowdale Redwings girls’ hockey teams competing this season in Tier 1 of the North Metro Girls Hockey League.

Philosophically the coaching staff aim for fairness, fun, communication and caring. Playing times for every player are equitable for the most part except for penalty situations and during important games. For players, the emphasis is placed on listening, best effort and commitment. The aim of the Willowdale Redwings is to provide an enjoyable, healthy environment in which girls can develop their skills and excel in their chosen sport.

Most of the players on the “AA” team have played for Redwing teams for at least three years. We welcome the four new players who joined us over the summer and look forward to a terrific season.

Postscript: the preceding text was written in September 2000 and hasn't been changed since. This paragraph was added in mid-April 2001 shortly before the team competes for the Ontario Provincial Championship. Whatever happens in that competition this season will be remembered as terrific indeed, not just for the action on the ice, but also for the memories of comradeship and shared joys and disappointments each player will take into the future. Great lessons learnt, not all to do with hockey.

Go Wings Go!
