PECCATUM: Strangling From Within
Candlelight Music
Review by Wolvesblood
The worst thing about this album would have to be the vocals, they
aren't all bad {there are three vocalists in here}, some of it has
black metal type vocals, but there are some that sound rather silly at times.
Some of the instruments used are very good at creating a haunted atmosphere
feeling. Many of the guitar riffs even sounds like very early Heavy Metal!
Which is something that I defintely wasn't expecting, but in other songs, you'll
hear black metal with blast beats! Overall, it has some nice parts, but
I hardly ever listen to it after I gave it the initial run-throughs.
Sinister: Aggresive Measures
Nuclear Blast
Review by Wolvesblood
Despite the album title I still didn't think this would be this heavy and
extreme. Sinister has never sounded so good....or so fast! The guitar stylings me a bit of
Slayer at times and has come out pretty good in the mix, with a bit
of a buzzsaw sound to them. But this is, of course, still very much
a death metal album. It's very difficult to put this on your
stereo and not get caught up in the music. It's catchy without
getting repetetive. It's unfortunate that this album is not getting
the recognition it deserves. Be sure to check it out.

Agony Conscience: Look into the Silence
Review by The Corpse
You know an album must be brutal when someone is feeling sick and they
hear said albumand it makes them feel worse then they already do. Well,
this grind band has that power and more.
The vocals are so totally low it's demonic, it's pure insanity. The drums
are pummeling and devastating, pure raw force unleashed in grinding
fashion. The guitars and bass complete this mess ofnoise and feedback disease.
Ungodly indeed. The industrial medleys between songs are a great treat
showing some calm before the storm of the next song.
The production is muddy, but loud. Everything can be heard, and this
chaotic mix just makes me love this album more and more. It makes
this album {the production} what it is...absolute grinding sickness.
Only for those who love sick, crazy grind, and those who don't
should find a corner to crawl in and wait for your mom to change your
diaper. Agony Conscience, indeed
Angel Corpse: Exterminate
Review by Wolvesblood
After seeing these guys in concert a while back and being very impressed,
I finally picked up this {their second} album. While it does have a lot
of speed and talent, it fails to impress me as much as they did live. A good
way to describe it would be almost like faster Morbid Angel with more
Black Metal type vocals. It's still a decent album to pick up though,
it just won't end up in my top 20 of all time or anything. So, if it's
a toss-up between seeing them in concert or buying the cd.......defintely
go for the concert. You won't regret it.
Morgana Lefay: Maleficium
Review by Armageddon
This Swedish power metal band has gottne my attention and kept me
headbanging and stomping my feet. It reminds me of a similar style to
Overkill: Years of Decay. It also has a little bit of Medieval feeling
when you hear them singing the backup or chorus lines. To name a few
of the songs that I liked are: The Source of Pain, Maleficium, Master
of the Masquerade and Witches Garden.

Emperor: IX Equilibrium
Review by Wolvesblood
Well, I'll guess I'll be the first to give this album a less than
perfect review. Although, it's obvious that a lot of work went into
this, it's just not as enjoyable as I was hoping. If every song were as
well done as "An Elegy of Icaros" then I could see it being deserved of
all the praise it's getting, as it is an amazing song.
It's by no means a bad album though. It is pretty decent. If you
liked Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk {their previous recording} you'll
probably like this one, as I feel generally
the same about both of them. Although it had some high points,
most of this album just isn't very
memorable, even after several repeated listens.
Straight To Hell: A Tribute To Slayer
Review by Armageddon
If you remember the other Tribute albums by Black Sun Records {Sweden}
called Slatanic Slaughter, we have another Tribute by Dead Line Music
with 13 songs of different bands covering Slayer. They have two groups
playing South of Heaven, Abbadon of Venom and The Electric
Hellfire Club. I like the Hellfire version better, but next time they should
not put the same songs next to each other. The other bands, to name a
few are: Mortician, Jungle Rot, Brood, Hypocrisy and more. It is a must,
I mean get it, NOW!!!
Overkill: Necroshine
Review by Armageddon
Here is the latest from Overkill, Necroshine. From the 1st song to
the last, it's a powerful heavy album. Personally, there's nothing wrong
with it. I find itvery entertaining and it didn't have any songs that
suck!!! To name a few songs on the album that I liked are: Necroshine,
Let Us Prey, Revelation, Stone Cold Jesus and I am Fear.

Nasum: Inhale/Exhale
Although I think Grincore is a decent form of music, alot of times you
just can't tell what the guitar is doing because all you can hear in the fast parts are the drums.
Not the case here though, the drums are kept within good levels and the
fast parts {and there are plenty of them!} sound amazing. Letting me
play this album is like giving a hyperactive kid a whole bag of sugar
to eat! Like I mentioned before, there are tons of fast parts and
occasionally it slows down to carve out a nice groove. Aside from this
being quite easy to get into it, it even withstands multiple plays
without getting boring. I've listened to it 17 times now and it's showing no sign of slowing down.
The Crown: Hell is Here
First of all, I have not heard one good thing about this album from
anybody with the exception of one person. One other person I know hated it
so much that they returned it to the store! Now, I know this isn't
going to win album of the year or anything, but I defintely don't think
it's that bad. Okay, the cover art is a little on the cheesy side, but
you can always turn the insert around so you don't have to look at it {like
I've done with many crappy covers with certain bands}. The music does
remind me alot of the Crown of Thorns: Eternal Death, but since a few
members still remain from that band it makes sense. It does seem
a little more simplistic though and a little more of an 80's metal feel.
I listened to this a few times and never had any regets about buying it.
My advice though would be if you are thinking
of purchasing it, maybe you should see if you can listen to it first.
Then decide.

Review by Wolvesblood:
Diabolical Masquerade: Nightwork
This CD is quite easy to get into, it's mostly black metal
{the keyboard type} with slight death metal guitar stylings. It's loaded
with a lot of great melodies and riffs that'll be memorized after
only a few listens. There's also a lot of different keyboard voices
to make it even more interesting. I couldn't believe that Blackheim
from Katatonia was reponsible for this great album! Especially since,
I never could get into anything I've heard from them. The only down
side to this CD is that although it's easy to get into....it does start
to taper off at around 10-15 listens mark, but other than that
it's an amazing release! Blackheim really should make this his full time project.
Review by The Corpse:
A.C.: Picnic of Love
Be afraid. Be damn fearful for your very life. I bet you're wondering
why? Is this album that extreme and brutal? No.
Seth {Putnam}, vocals and Josh {Martin}, guitar; have made the ultimate crap
album. All there is on this-soon-to-be-beer-coaster is Josh playing acoustic guitar and
Seth signing love ballads in a really gay voice.
I got this album free, thanks to my HMV club card. I was expecting something
chaotic like most of their other stuff, but to my dismay it was a
piece of crap. They should give it away instead of making fans pay for it.
I didn't feel gentle and sensitive when forcing myself to listen to
each song and expecting them to break into something heavy, I felt like
puking and wanting to slit my throat. I could say something positive
about this garbage, but then I would be lying. "If you buy this CD you
are gay!"
JANUARY REVIEWS
Reviews by Wolvesblood:
Reincarnation:Void
I find it impossible to listen to this album and stand still at the
same time, and for that reason I've been listening to it quite often.
Great grooves, interesting beats and a juicy bass sound help round out
this CD. I guess you could classify this as mostly mid-paced heavy
death. Don't miss out on this one, as it should be included in the
"You must buy these albums" section! It even has a high replay value.
Lucifers Hammer:The Mists of Time
This is slow to medium speed black metal{the keyboards and female
vocals type black metal}. It is done extremely well though, the
keyboards are well pronounced and have a good tone to them.
These guys are quite good at invoking mental pictures and emotions
with their music, which makes the CD all that more interesting.
This CD is VERY easy to get into, but after many listens it starts to wear a
LITTLE thin. Don't get me wrong, I still definitely recommend this
album, it just won't get the same reaction as your first few listens
when you get to around listen number 15.
Clean Flesh
At first I didn't like this album much at all, some of those
vocals sound like some kind of weird animal! But after forcing myself
to listen a few more times, I actually got to like this CD. After
years of lesbian worship by bands like Type-O and Cradle of Filth,
{not to mention Hollywood and the media} a song like "Immoral
Sex Habits" is quite refreshing! Although following along with the
lyrics is a chore of it's own. This grinding death band has put out
a good release, unfortunately it clocks in under 20 mintues. But, this
should mean you can get it for a good price. And remember, if you
don't like it at first........try, try again. Hopefully, they'll
come out with a full length soon.
Review by Armageddon:
HammerFall: Legacy of Kings
The second CD from this German band, Legacy of Kings, is bringing
their great quality of speed metal music that will keep your head
banging through the whole album, especially when I'm listening to
"Let The Hammer Fall". The presentation of the CD is great, the
artwork and the layout is remarkable.
1998: Demo{s} of the Year
Although, I only heard about 20 demos this year, these 2 are
defintely the best. The even rival many signed releases I've
heard this year.
HORDE OF WORMS: Horde of Worms
A great mix of Black/Death with some Egyptian influence and some truly
insane speed is occasionally added to the mix to make this a very ejoyable
listen.
Go the
Horde of Worms homepage
FLESH FEAST: Fate of Hated Flesh
Amazing heavy Death with that "popping" snare sound, a
good mix and consistently great songs throughout the whole tape.
Since this demo was on tape I was able to play it in my car.....
.many, many times. Somebody should really sign this band.
Bandnames, titles, artwork...yada,yada,yada.....DON'T STEAL THEM!
