Kites I Have Previously Owned

Traded my New Jam to get my Feather back.  New Jam is a really good kite & I will probably buy another one in the future.

Moondance SUL Stiletto, man this was a hard one to sell but I needed the cash for power kiting.

Psycho

This was my HQ Maestrale.  Very Good 6' trickster.  It does the easiest Tornado lauches & really nice flap jacks.  I thought it needed a home where it will see more air time.

Blue Moon Mamba: Gorgeous kite & very well made.  But I am a trick flyer & this kite is more ballet/precision.

I sold my Ozone for several reasons.  1) I want a maximum of 12 kites in my kite bag, actually I would prefer only 10.   2) I have 3 SUL kites  3) I prefer my SUL Moondance Stiletto MORE.

I sold my Stranger Level 7.  It was fun for awhile but now I can do advanced tricks gracefully & don't get along with the yank & spank style of the SL7.   Still a good looking kite.

Tribal Warrior:  Nice flying kite but not really trickable.  So I sold it to get funds for my Ronin & New Jam.

I sold the Shockwave.  Quad flying is ok, but not my cup of tea.  The kite looked great but I didn't really have allot of fun flying it.  In high wind I prefer my Psycho.  The funds were put towards my rainbow Elixir.

I gave my Prism I2k to a friend's son (Wayne's son Aaron).  Now Dad & son can do some team flying.

I sold the Benson Gemini to get some cash for my Mamba.  A great trickster & looks great too.   I did tend to prefer the feel of my Elixir more.

I am keeping my Gemini Review.  Click here for my old Review  I am sad to see it go but, it didn't get the airtime & love it deserved.  I hope it will be loved in its new home.  I am keeping my pictures of it.

Prism Fanatic: I didn't click with this kite, but now regret selling it.  I could have found a place for it in the bag but it was just sooo frustrating with all those dam tip wraps.  This kite is 'NO' beginner to intermediate kite.  I would rate this kite more as an advanced kite because of its repertoire of tricks & in order to trick successfully you need precise hand movements & line tension.  I believe now that the Fanatic would be a fun 6', now I need to find an owner who will let me try one again.

Revolution EXP: Good quad line kite but I am currently interested in dual line tricks.  I would definitely recommend the EXP to people looking for a good all around quad at a fair price.  The kite is easy to master & very flyer friendly.  Many of my fellow club members own the EXP because of its overall value.  However, the EXP is not precise & with no other special abilities, I quickly got bored with it.

Flying Wings Utopia: Unique flying kite, unfortunately my kite had several problems with its construction. The center T stopper & LLE stoppers kept moving.  I tried to repair it & then tried to get replacement parts to no avail.  Basically the kite dismantled itself in flight because the LLE slipped into the Upper Leading Edges.  Also the bridle was partially installed incorrectly at the factory which I was able to fix because another club member has a Utopia.  Thankfully the store took it back for a full credit.

I think it is really a sad situation that such a unique design & flying style kite is made by such a poor customer service oriented company.  Flying Wings should straighten themselves out or Martin should release the full size version with another manufacturer.

Solo: a kite I won at a TKF event.  I donated it to a friend who will give it to a child in Poland.  Hopefully it will be loved.  For me it was obviously never flown.

Kites I have tried

WSO:  Good precision kite that gives you a big presence in the sky.  Workmanship is bad (kite is $125US) it had loose threads all over the sail.  The kite does some nice axels, half axels, & 540s.  I enjoyed this kite & for the price is a pretty good package.

Ying Yang:  Small kite & not stable in tricking.  Ugly axels & the kites look dreadful.  I wouldn't buy one for $20.

Pizaz: I flew this kite in light wind (3 mph) & I believe it was well below it's intended wind range.  I thought the kite was Ok in terms of  workmanship, but for $225+ kite I expect allot more.  Sail was not tight fitting, which is probably intentional (yuk).  Also in light wind this kite had more oversteer than a SL7.  I now know that I NEVER buy one.  Too much money for not enough kite.

All Star by Aerostar Kites:  Very good all round.  Need small inputs & holds a great fade.  Smooth axels & 540s however it won't rotofade.  Not a fault just a note.

Zerostar by Aerostar:  Excellent SUL, it is very floaty.  1 aspect of flight I most enjoyed is when you get in trouble & you pancake it out, the Zerostar will float on its belly giving you time to unwrap any tip wraps.  Very Cool.  However, it felt a little to heavy for indoor, you could fly it inside but you will need to WORK.

Spica by Aerostar:   A pure fun kite that reminds me of the Psycho but for lighter winds.  Small inputs & the kite will respond better.  The Spica is quick will a bit of oversteer (in lighter winds I tried it in) & because of its size will be difficult to do slow Jacob Ladders on it.  I have seen it done but it requires slower wind in order to do them.

Master Control: Excellent precision & huge repertoire of tricks.  Definitely a kite to own because you can fly ballet with it & then walk across the beach to the Hot Tricks Shootout with it.

Easy Lite: Not a true UL, it is light, but it is also very small.  Good tricking but nothing that special, reason is it is not a graceful tricker.

Tramontana:  Very good precision kite & very good construction.

Outerspace: The is a GREAT all around kite. I was able to easily put it into several raising Fades & also pulled off several 540s.  GREAT kite.

Stranger: Good all around kite & does beautiful axels, however the large wingspan makes 'Cartwheels' a bit of a pain.  Construction is very good & this kite is fairly durable for the beginner to intermediate flyer.

Ozone:  Similar flight characteristics to my Feather.  Usual high quality found in Prism kites, the Ozone will pancake out flatter than the Feather.

Fanatic: Good all around kite but I found that I tip wrap it way too much.  On the plus side, the Fanatic is easy to re-launch in all positions including the 'Dead' position & it is a fairly durable kite.  However, I would say that the Fanatic is an advanced kite rather than intermediate.  Why? Because, tricks must be performed perfectly to succeed or else you will end up in a tip wrap.

Alien:  Like its name this kite is an alien.  When the wind is blowing hard this kite has little pull/lift allowing you to flic flac or pancake it easily in 15 mph wind.

Micron: Really fast kite.  I didn't like it because it is so small, fast & incredibly sensitive to input.

Omega XS: Not enough wind to judge the kite on the day I tried it.  I tried it again & don't particularly care for it.  I found that it doesn't recover very well & it needs a ton of wind to get moving (20+ mph).

Freestyle Y2K: Also not enough wind to test it on the day I tried it.

Pi: Good small package SUL. I would recommend using it in near zero winds or indoors.  Because of its size & very light weight this kite is sensitive to turbulent wind.  Tried it recently indoors & it works great.  Small size & extremely light make it a great indoor kite.  However, for these same reasons it is a poor low wind outdoor kite.

Next Step: Ok 6' kite.  Light pull & tricks ok, nothing special.

Go Fly a Kite Megafoil: This kite has a little bit of pull (my stiletto had more) & basically I wasn't impressed with it.  Not very responsive & with little pull makes me wonder why anybody would buy this kite.

Kites I want to try

Revolution Blast: If I go back to quad line kites then this one is a must try.  Precise in low wind & fast in high wind.

Aerostar: I would like to try the Spica & the Zerostar.  The Zerostar looks really good.

Mullin Area 51:  Back-spinning machine.  I considered this one over my Gemini but ultimately picked the Gemini because the Gemini is not just a 1 trick wonder.

PBSK Bad Boy & Savage: I would like to try other kites in Peter's line up.

Skyburner Heat: Heard it is an all around good kite, would like to try but I doubt will purchase it.
