The Story of how I was introduced to Sport Kite Flying
My Story is: I went to a craft show many years ago (1993) with my Fiancé (now my wife). At this show, all products must be hand crafted & I saw a kite store with sport kites. I stopped to watch the kite video, which was the Prism Trick Show video. I thought this was cool, kites that can do acrobatics. After he told me prices of the kites in the video and the prices of some of his larger models, I thought he was crazy. However, he had a beginner kite that is virtually indestructible and came as a complete package, the Jazz Pro. At $90 it still seemed pricey to the inexperienced kite flyer but the Jazz Pro was made with very high quality material & came with lines. Now while I considered buying this beginner kite, my wife drags me away to go look at other junk like honey, hand knitted sweaters etc. Then we leave the show and at home she presents to me the kite. I was excited and irritated. Why irritated? Because I wanted to ask a million more questions about flying and the kite store was not local (3 hr drive away). So I kept that kite for several months until business brought me close to the kite store (Tail Spin Kites). I went there and looked at all these other cool kites and asked my million questions. The owner was extremely friendly & patient with my questions. I flew that kite for 6 years (Jazz Pro) & you can see pictures and review of it at my site. Then in the late summer of 1999, I was bitten by the kite bug again and wanted to get into serious tricks. I purchased a Fanatic, lines & videos (Prism Advanced Way to Fly & Dodd's New Flight School). I watched those videos day & night. I must have watched both videos at least 200 times. However, when I went out to the field I couldn't seem to get any tricks out of the Fanatic. I still loved kites and wanted to expand my collection. I was told by the store owner (mentioned above) that I should try a Revolution. So I purchased a Revolution EXP. I did really well with that kite. I quickly progressed and was able to tip stab it, dive stop & reverse flight. So I decided to continue expanding my collection. I decided on a PBSK Stiletto. On the maiden flight I was able to trick this kite all over the place. I axelled it, axel to fade, Turtles, Lazy Susans & Sleeping Beauty launches just to name a few. After my experience with the Stiletto & EXP, I decided I needed to expand my bag even further. This lead to the purchase of a my HQ Feather for low wind days & the Psycho for high wind days. Also I added a Benson Gemini, this is generally considered by most as the best trick kite on the market today. So this is my story. I hope you enjoyed it.
