Samsung S300 Frequently Asked Questions

This is a very brief FAQ list. I will add more to it when I have time (which is very little!)

How do I read firmware version

Enter code *#9999# to check your firmware version

It should show something like

Rev S1.6h
S30XXWB1

XX firmware is  a non-network-specific firmware version.

Phones bought from specific networks will generally not have XX firmwares because they will be customized for that network. Ie. Locked to specific carrier, Carrier logo, specific wap settings etc

There should not be any differences between, say XXWC3 and XEWC3 apart from operator specific things. XX is ALWAYS preferable to any other combination

What is a firmware?

A firmware is basically an embedded software on your phone which is much like an operating system on your computer. You need it to run your phone. There are many different firmware versions for the S300 and some have different features and bug fixes. It’s good to update your firmware to fix or add features to your phone, but I suggest that you don’t flash your phone too many times!!

The newest firmware version for the Samsung S300 are the B4 and C4 versions. This can be found on the net!

How do I add more languages into my S300?

The only way I figured out how to do this is to flash your phone with an updated firmware. I flashed in S30XXWB4 and got the following languages: deutsch, italiano, francais, espanol, nederlands, svenska, dansk, portugues, suomi, norsk, eaahnika, turkce, magyar, polski, pyccknn, cestina, romanva, slovensky, slovenscina and English.

Also, if you originally had a carrier specific firmware and have updated it with a newer version (i.e. S30XXWB3, or B4) you’ll also notice in your FUNBOX à DOWNLOADs section you’ll have 2 new menu items: GAMES&MORE and DNS Settings

What languages can be found on the S300?

The European firmware versions come with the European languages: deutsch, italiano, francais, espanol, nederlands, svenska, dansk, portugues, suomi, norsk, eaahnika, turkce, magyar, polski, pyccknn, cestina, romanva, slovensky, slovenscina and English.

The B8 firmware has the Chinese language on it, but no JAVA

How do I get Chinese support on my S300?

To get Chinese support on your S300 phone, you will have to flash you phone to the s308 version firmware. Ie. S38ZCWWB8. Unfortunately, you will lose your JAVA options. But…. If you don’t care, then go ahead and get the s308 firmware

Is it possible to flash from S308 firmware to S300?

Yes. But you would have to download the S300 firmware and flash it into your phone.

How do I quickly turn on the external display without opening the flip?

All you have to do is hold down the volume buttons on the side of the phone for a second or two.

How do I get Midlets into my S300?

At the moment, the only way to get new Midlets is to download it from the web using your phone’s browser.

Where can I find ring tones?

There are ringtones all over the net. But…. It’s easier just to create your own by converting the standard midi files into .mmf using a software.

I am currently using PSMplayer 3.8 to convert my midi files into 40chord mmf files. After doing so, I upload my new ringtone through the EasyGPRS software that came with the S300.

How can I get my new ring tones to include Vibrations and LED sync?

This can be easily done through the PSMplayer software. I am using version 3.8 which has the option to add Vibra sync and LED sync.

What are the wap settings for my phone?

It depends on the network that you are on. Here are just some of them.

How can I get my browser to work? It says “no service available”?

If you get an error message when you are trying to access the internet through your phone, make sure that you have the correct settings for you network provider.

After you double-checked it, make sure that you have subscribed to a GPRS service. You would have to enable Internet capabilities on your cell phone account. Call your local network provider to sign up for it. Once they give you the ability to surf the net.. try logging on to the net again using your S300.

Are there any aftermarket headsets/handsfree kits out there for the S300?

The standard 2.5mm jack headsets will not work on the S300/S308. So don’t bother trying the cheap no name headsets. However, it is known that the Jabra Bluetooth BT200 freespeak for non-bluetooth phones does work fine with the phone.

What other phone accessories are compatible with the S300?

The adaptor for the N625 and the Samsung V200 series phones will work for the Samsung S300. Of course, you’ll need a different battery charging stand because the battery is a different size on those phones. But the cord of the adaptor itself is compatible.

How do I get wallpapers onto my Samsung S300?

You can easily get new wallpapers onto your phone by Using EasyGPRS. But remember, wallpaper uploaded to your phone must have an IMAGE size of 128X97 pixels. I use photoshop to adjust the image size before uploading it into my phone.

Are there any Samsung S300 codes?
