He left England onApril 9, 1884, arriving in New York on April 21, 1884 aboard The Queen.He made for Saskatoon, Canada where he was the second storekeeper in thenew town. He later drove Louis Riel to his trial in 1885. After thedeath of his wife, during childbirth, he returned to England to findsomeone to help him look after the children and died there of pneumonia.
