"On April 1, 1825, Nicholas was tried and found guilty of warningsmugglers of the approach of preventive men, by shouting and lighting abonfire. He insisted he was merely on his way home and on seeing theofficers approach, cried out to the smugglers to run. No details of anypunishemnt were given."
