It is currently believed that obesity is the cause of diabetes or linked
to the disease. This may be just a coincidence or over-emphasized
factor.
According to a newspaper report, cases of diabetes type-2 have
increased by three folds in China, reaching twenty-five million in
sightly more than ten years.diashijie Food supply is adequate in China
on the whole. This is comparatively recent. There may be some
over-indulgence in food in the economically better developed
regions near the coast in the past two to three years. But this is
mainly involving children of well-to-do families, eating ice-cream
and chocolate. The timings do not fit. Obesity in China involves only
a particular section of the society and in the coastal regions in recent
years. This certainly cannot account for the large increase in the
number of cases.
Infection may be a likely cause, considering the phenomenal
increase. This problem had probably started much earlier but had
not been noticed because more serious problems in China such as
food supply and other necessities.
