A Death Linked to Gene Therapy

The death of a 18-year-old man is linked to the effects of the gene therapy. Penn officials say the treatment sparked a severe reaction of his immune system, a so-called inflammatory response that caused multiple organs to fail. The story was reported by Susan Dentzer of Online NewsHour, pbs.org on December 8, 1999.

This is similar to the case of toxic shock syndrome developed during pregnancy (see below). ENL (erythema nodosum leprosum) can be activated by stress (mental or physical) or intercurrent infection or chemotherapy, leading to necrotizing vasculitis, resulting in toxic shock syndrome and multiple organ failure. The viruses used in gene therapy can be regarded as intercurrent infection. The biological samples can be checked for the DNA of Hansen's bacterium by means of PCR methods. It is not appropriate to rule out infection by Hansen's bacterium in developed countries. Many diseases of unknown causes may be caused by this bacterium. For further detail about ENL, please see Book 2; Chapter 2, The Cause of AIDS.

Delay Rejection of Skin Grafts

Delay Rejection of Skin Graftshan indicates immune abnormalities of Hansen's disease patients. This may be related to the fact that a group of viruses and bacteria associates with Hansen's bacterium.

Group of Viruses and Bacteria Associates with Hansen's Bacterium

There are myriads of viruses and bacteria associating with Hansen's bacterium.mem They go wherever it goes. These are called associating viruses and bacteria. Some are identified and some are not. Whenever these viruses and bacteria are grown in culture media, they usually turn out but Hansen's bacterium does not because it does not grow in vitro. HIV is probably one of them. These act as decoys misleading scientists investigating AIDS, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, Gulf War syndrome and other autoimmune diseases. These viruses and bacteria have helped build great careers for many scientists.

Mycoplasma (ALS, Gulf War Syndrome)

It used to be fashionable to suspect viruses as causes of cancer. One of these viruses, now called HIV, is believed by many to be the cause of AIDS. This is only a hypothesis which is passed as a proven theory by the media. The current fashions are mycoplasmas which are believed to be the cause of ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease or motor neurone disease), arthritis and Gulf War syndrome. It has been used as a diagnosis technique for ALS according to some patients.

As shown above, Hansen's bacterium has some affect on the immune system and this may be related to the observation that many viruses and bacteria are known as a group of viruses and bacteria associating with Hansen's bacterium. If the bacterium is the real cause, the associating viruses and bacteria may act as decoys. It does ring a bell.

Toxic Shock Syndrome during Pregnancy

chinesenewsnet.com August 10, 1999 reported a pregnant woman, in the US, developed a disease, causing lips and limbs to swell and her limbs had to be amputated to save her life, because of too much dead tissues, low blood pressure due to leaky capillaries. This is similar to ENL, activated by stress due to pregnancy, resulting in necrotizing vasculitis. Several similar cases have been reported in Taiwan (references not available).

ALS, Arthritis, Asthma, Lyme Disease . . . etc.

The variation patterns (see Chapters 3 & 4) of these diseases indicate they are related and this is consistent with some newly observed facts.

Some patients are suffering from ALS also complaining about coughing or asthma. A lady reader e-mailed this author, stating "I like your theory. I myself have asthma and definite symptoms of ALS. I have had the symptoms for about ten months now and worsening every day." Some ALS cases are mis-diagnosed as Lyme disease and a Lyme doctor is at present being investigated. If lyme and ALS belong to the same spectrum of a disease, they will look similar and their symptoms may be interchangeable at different stages of their development. Some arthritis patients complain about throat problems and one of them fears this turning into cancer. There are good reasons to worry. Immune disorders and some types of cancer have similar variation patterns (November 1999).
