CARA

The CHELTENHAM AREA RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION (CARA) is a nonprofit community organization.  Its aim is to foster the highest quality of life for the residents of Cheltenham and its immediate surrounding area by :
· monitoring the implementation and administration of activities undertaken by the governing bodies
· Fairly representing the concerns of the majority of the membership
· Maintaining and preserving the rural character of the area
· Fostering a greater awareness of the environment and development plans
· Promoting a positive community spirit.

These are achieved through presentations to local council, regular meetings with our local councillor, community meetings for subjects of general interest and benefit, community social events such as the annual Cheltenham Day*, seasonal community events such as Winterfest, and sponsoring local charitable causes such as costs for special medical needs, individual sport youth champions, and youth groups.

All CARA proceeds are directed back to the Cheltenham community.  All executive positions are volunteer, and minor expenses where possible are covered by individual donations.

CARA was incorporated in 1997.

* Note:
For Cheltenham Day, CARA is sponsored by the Chinguacousy Lions Club. Activities for Cheltenham Day are the soapbox derby, river duck race, the evening dinner and dance, childrens activities, parade, and street sale.
