Cheltenham Day 2000 - Saturday July 8th

A thriving community in the 19th century, Cheltenham hosted many seasonal events: dances in Beaver Hall... picnics... church outings... the regatta on the mill pond. As the town's growth slowed down in the middle of the twentieth century, many of these events disappeared.

Early in the 1990s an enthusiastic volunteer organisation was founded to hold a one-off Cheltenham Day to raise funds for playground equipment. This event was so successful, that it has continued annually. The volunteer organisation spawned the Cheltenham Area Residents Association who now oversee this wonderful community event. Funds raised during Cheltenham Day are used for local community projects.

For 2000, Cheltenham Day will be held on Saturday, July the 10th. Building on the demand from previous years, 2000's celebration will host a parade, street sale,  river duck race, evening dinner and dance, a massive waterballoon fight, numerous activities for younger folk.

Based on the success of last year's event, the Great Cheltenham River Race will be back! An all comers event, this 'anything goes' tube race will be sure to entertain. Last year, many were disappointed to find that there were no places left. Don't be disappointed, register now! Tickets can be purchased at the Cheltenham General Store.
