EOMAC 2000 AWARDS BBQ

EOMAC 2000 AWARDS BBQ

This year our Awards BBQ was held at Bud Seawright’s home on the banks of the Credit River in Mississauga.  I think it was the best attended year end party since I have been in the club.

After waiting for the meat (during which time we all drank lots of beer) and getting it cooked  (Dawn Orr who was bringing the meat got called in to work earlier in the day and was stuck there until after 6pm) we proceeded to making the annual awards announcements.

The Syd Fagan award for Fun, Fitness and Fellowship (presented by Barrie Malloch) went to Bryan Gaudet, (Lane 6) who has been secretary on the board and has worked as our volunteer coordinator for two years.  The other members honoured by being nominated were Maggie Dodge (Lane 7) our hard working President, former treasurer and T-shirt sales person, and Shelly Gerger  ( Lane 8) who exemplifies the spirit of masters swimming by encouraging and welcoming everyone.

The Pluntke-Lutman award for competitive excellence (presented by John Brett) went to Sylvia Eisele(Lane 1) who has had an amazing year, managing to break at least 11 Canadian Records and has even broken her own records.

The Wavelenghts award for most improved swimmer (presented by Cliff Barry) went to Graciela Conde (Lane 1 and now lane 2).

Amanda Atkinson thanked Cliff Barry for a great year of coaching.   An enthusiastic “for he’s a jolly good fellow” followed.

Charlie Lane was presented with a gift in appreciation (presented by Maggie Dodge) of his many years of service maintaining the bulletin board, handling meet entries and relays and being our official photographer.   Charlie has retired from these positions as of the end of June 2000.

Charlie Lane made a personal announcement that he plans to get married on July 28th and invited club members to attend his open house on July 29th at his and Cathy’s new home in Mississauga.

Amanda Atkinson then held a draw for tons of great door prizes from Leader and Heart and Stroke plus some  EOMAC T-Shirts and caps.

We continued to party until nearly midnite but no one went skinny dipping.  (at least not while I was there)

The club banner went missing from the trees in front of Bud’s house for several days until Geoff Camp “fessed up” and told me he had taken it because he thought that Charlie Lane had put it up and he wanted to play a joke on hiim.

A great ending to a great year at EOMAC.
