Notice to all Division 747 Members
SUBJECT: Proper Procedure to File a Grievance
Due to the high volume of grievances being received by this office as a result of the imposed Change of Card on May 07, 2000 it is imperative that time claim grievances be filed in the correct manner to avoid unnecessary delays and paper work.
A time claim must be submitted on the proper form and forwarded to the
CMC or proper company officer.
If the time claim is declined it will state why. At this point if the Local
committee or General committee feels there is a legitimate claim we will
proceed to Step Two of the grievance procedure.
SUBJECT: Outstanding Grievances and Appeals
Most of the time claim grievances received by this office have been filed and we are still waiting for a response.
Appeals on behalf of those members whom received demerits as a result of numerous investigations have been filed at Step Two or are at the Step Three level with the General Chairman's office.
Those members who have filed time claims, which are not in line for payment, will be notified by telephone as to the reasons why.
NOTE: It appears obvious to our membership that VIA Rail has entered into a campaign which includes ignoring our basic rights under the collective agreement such as meals, rest clauses, and providing accommodations when a member is tired and requires some rest at the away from home terminal. They also seem very anxious to invite our members in to provide employee statements.
Having said this we would encourage our membership to continue working in the usual safe, diligent, and professional manner, which we are all accustomed to. This is very important under these very unfortunate and stressful times in employee labor relations.
Fraternally:
M. L. Grieve
Local Chairman
Division 747, Toronto.
