I was wondering why the BLE has not filed any opposistion to OC
Transpo bus drivers application to operate commuter trains in Ottawa.

Brother Fitzgerald

At the present time there is no commuter service out of Ottawa and the
City of Ottawa or OC Transpo have not filed for a Certificate of Fitness
to have a railway under the Federal Railway Act. Once they have done
that the BLE on behalf of the CPR Locomotive Engineers effected will
fill all of the necessary objections and papers to have the CPR Eastern
Collective Agreement apply to the service under the Canada Labour Code's
successor rights.

Brother Bob McKenna, General Chairman CPR East has been involved with
this issue for the past 3 years and we are on top of the whole
issue. Be assured that the BLE is not about to let bus drivers operate
diesel locomotives anywhere is Canada where we have jurisdiction under
the Federal Code.
