INTRODUCTION

Thanks to Grandma's generous inheritance I was able to renovate the old mansion, Castlefield. However, expenses and increased taxes left me with far less than I had expected for future maintenance. With some advice from Uncle Henry, I finally decided to turn Castlefield into an historical guest house.

The gothic appeal of the castle drew guests faster than I had expected. By the summer after we opened, I had the 12 guest rooms rented constantly. No doubt the rumours that Castlefield had once been a hiding place for the rebel leader, William Lyon Mackenzie, had something to do with the popularity of the place. Mackenzie was said to have sought refuge here after the unsuccessful Rebellion of Upper Canada.

It was during the August Civic Holiday weekend that things began to go wrong. A horrible thing happened which was to turn things upside down for the whole family. It began with some disturbing occurrences which no one could explain.
