The Light

Silhouettes against illuminated backdrop
spread from north to south
Tree limbs in spiked, brittle form
Stand erect
And with obedience pay homage to
The Light

The Light, now intense with
Magenta, orange, fuschia
Firing up the sky
Then trailing at the edges into
Shades of rose, mauve, azure,
the palest of pales
Greying, now smoky hues--
Streaks.

Twilight erases the memory of
A sliver of orange sitting
on the horizon
Threatened,
The overcoming darkness brings stars, planets
Universes, and
The Light.
