My Gift To You

If I could offer you a bouquet of only the brightest stars,
Each one selected for its purity, plucked from the Milky Way,
And if those stars shone brightly for you all your life,
This gift might be worthy of your smile.

If I could compose an overture so beautiful it would bring tears to your eyes,
Or write so moving a concerto your soul thrilled to the sound,
And if the music calmed your soul and filled it with joy,
This gift might be worthy of your praise.

If I could paint a glorious scene with colours vivid and serene
To please your eyes and decorate your life
With beauty, unique and vibrant and bright,
This gift might be worthy of your gaze.

Yet all I have to give is still a part of me;
The love I want to express but often fail to convey
Which was silent and asleep, now I freely give and pray
This gift might be worthy of your love.

If things we see, or hear, or feel can make us glad to be alive
And knowing someone understands our deepest thoughts,
Then gifts of hope and joy and love are all we need
For nothing else can satisfy our hungry hearts.
