This workshop will be of interest to nurses responsible for preparing, giving, and participating in performance appraisals. Nurse managers, program managers, directors, supervisors and direct care providers in organizations adapting their current performance appraisal systems to meet the needs of the workplace will find the workshop a useful, practical opportunity.

workshop will be interactive with group work, individual work, and an opportunity to share and collaborate
with colleagues. Participants can begin to develop their own unique performance appraisal system.

Heather Bruce, R.N., B.Sc. N.
Heather has an extensive background in health care including staff and management positions in acute care
and community services. As a senior manager of service delivery in the private and public sectors,
she has developed a performance management system that has been successfully applied to the provision of
competency-based service delivery. As a speaker at provincial and national conferences, Heather
has made presentations on "Enhancing Nursing Services," "Performance Management," "Opportunity
Analysis," and most recently at the 1997 CINA Conference, "Competency-based IV Services." Heather
is a regular speaker for the middle management series on Telemedicine Canada. Heather produced
and co-authored an audio tape entitled "Nurse's Notes - Chart Your Own Destiny" and recently co-authored
Surely You Jest: Bringing Humour to the Workplace (August 1997) in the Canadian Nurse Journal.
Most recently, Heather was Director of Nursing Services for a national home health care organization and is
currently Program Manager - Client Services for a community care access centre.
