This workshop will be of interest to all nurses and other health care disciplines (including physiotherapists,
social workers, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, etc.) working with clients in acute care,
long-term care, and home settings. Providing client service in today's health care environments
requires skills and techniques to manage abusive behaviour.
If you are a direct caregiver and want to better understand difficult client behaviour, then this
workshop is for you.

The workshop will be interactive and experiential. The group work will provide the participants with hands-on experience in understanding the material provided in a workbook. The design of the workshop will allow you to explore practice issues from your experience while you enjoy the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues.

Wendy Kasta, R.N., MScN.
Wendy Kasta is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Mental Health Nursing. She has practiced and taught in
a variety of health care settings. She has conducted research on the experience of abusive clients
and families. Wendy has held the position of Director Nursing Practice, Clinical Nurse Specialist,
and consultant to St. Elizabeth Visiting Nurses.
Wendy has participated in research projects related to abuse and the nurse, and published the results.
During her career, many nurses have spoken to her about experiencing abusive patients and families,
and this has led her to do research with colleagues on the topic of abusive behaviour.
Wendy has spoken on the topic of abuse at international and national conferences and offers a unique perspective
on the difficulties nurses face in today's health care environments.
