Cam Of The Day

Plan view of the bottom shoe ass'y.

The cam of the day is used to form two tabs up against the stripper which is bottomed out. The material is .185 thk which explains the beefy nature of this tool. Forming with the stripper was not an option making this cam necessary.

The down motion of the press is turned to the horizontal slide which then drives the form cams back up the way. Adjustment for changes in press shut height are made to the hardened face plate mounted to the bumper on the top shoe.

These cams have only one return nitrogen spring each and although hard to see the form cams feature positive returns to pull them back down to the rest pos'n.

The positive return can be seen to the left of the form cam. In order to assure that everything would fit and be strong enough the basic layouts for this cam design had to be drawn out full size on the drafting board.

Cams like these keep my job fun!

A special thanks to the Concord Tooling & Mfg. that built these.
