Pathways

The Ontario Journal of Outdoor Education

Pathways is published five times a year as the voice of outdoor educators in Ontario. Each year we put into print the prose, poetry, and the art from more than 70 members of The Council Of Outdoor Educators of Ontario. Topics and submissions range from the philosophical to the practical, from elementary to university, from urban to wilderness, from founding members and from new members. We have continued our practice of rotating the editorship of each issue within the Editorial Board, giving each volunteer the chance to put their own imprimateur on their issue.

We can only publish what we get. The Editorial Board recognizes the need for more 'what can I do Monday morning' material. If you have an activity that you use often outdoors, please send it to us. We'll take things in any form, and gladly work with you to publish it -- but please send us stuff! We need doable material, kids' stuff, artwork ...

In addition to putting out five issues of the only outdoor education magazine in Canada, other noteworthy projects of the Editorial Board include the publication of the List of Integrated Programmes, now into second printing of 50; and the publication in print and on disk of the Pathways Index, both available from the COEO Secretary.

Plans for this year include the usual conference issue; issues showcasing university outdoor education programmes at Lakehead and at Queen's; and an issue to celebrate our 50th issue of Pathways.

For more information about current issues, see the Tables of Contents page.

Pathways is approaching the 50th issue! We (the Editorial Board) are seeking your humorous outdoor education stories, fiction or non-fiction, personal experiences, or other experiences or otherwise totally fun and funny or fun with a serious element. Any length is appropriate. We can also use favourite cartoons, excerpts from other literature (we'll need references) and comic photos of old and new. We are open!

We hope to celebrate COEO and outdoor education in an upbeat, 'let's have fun, let's laugh at ourselves' kind of way. Well, OK, we can be satirical or cynical too as long as there is a full belly roar, a modest guffaw, or a sneaky snicker.
