" WIDTH=20 HEIGHT=22> Remarks for users of Netscape Navigator. If you are using this browser you may experience troubles when downloading jar (Java Archive) files and javascript JS files. It may often happen that instead of notice of successful download a page of strange looking text is displayed or nothing is displayed at all or some warning of corrupt file may be shown. In this case you have two choices. 1/Repeat the download by right clicking the link and choose 'Save link as' from the context menu. 2/Type a pseudoURL about:cache in the address field. The browser will display the content of its cache and the name under which the jar or JS file is stored there. Then access Navigator's disk cache that is usually located in a subdirectory of Netscape install directory bearing your name. Copy the file with extension.jar or .JS and named as you found in previous step from there to a folder of your choice. To make sure, open the jar file with WinZip or similar tool and look if the archive contains the file with corresponding applet name and extension class. (The archive will usually contains more class files.) Then rename the copied file using the name under which the file was downloaded. When you inspect the source code of HTML pages running the applet demonstations and the links on this page, you can see that that the downloaded files are the same as the archives from which the demonstrations are run. I can also send you zipped Java archives with desired applets by E-mail.
The troubles in some versions of Netscape Navigator are caused by the fact that these versions are using jar files also for plugin installation. In addition to it the browser may attempt to run JS files with Windows Scripting Host. Both attempts fail. These failures are harmless.
Jar files differ from zip files only by extension name and can be used with WinZip on the same way as zip files. The advantage of using jar files is in the fact that java class loaders can load classes directly from a jar file without the necessity to decompress it first. Also, when running an applet, the jar file is downloaded as a whole and the applet does not have to download every single class file separately when it is needed.

" WIDTH=20 HEIGHT=22> Source code for any Java archive with an applet may be sent to you by E-mail. Sorry for this inconvenience. My web space is limited and expensive.
