Adjectives

There are two kinds of adjectives:
    -i    adjectives
    -na adjectives

-i adjectives are those which end in '-i', except those which end in '-ei'
(those are '-na' adjectives).

-na Adjectives

-na adjectives are those which end in '-ei' or do not end in '-i'.
KI RE I beautiful
HANSAMU  handsome 
SHINSETSU  kind, helpful 
YUMEI  famous 
NIGIYAKA  noisy, lively 
SHIZUKA  quiet 
TAISETSU (NA) important; beloved

KORE WA TAISETSU NA HON DESU.
This is an important book.
 

HANSAMU DESU.
He is handsome.

SHINSETSU DESU.
He is kind.

KONO HITO WA KIREI DESU.
This person is beautiful.

KONO TSUKUE WA KIREI DESU.
The desk is clean.

KONO HITO WA GENKI DESU.
This person is healthy.

YUMEI DESU.
He is famous.

The negative of a -na adjective is formed as if it were a noun:
KORE WA TSUKUE DESU. This is a desk.
KORE WA TSUKUE DEWA/JA ARIMASEN. This is not a desk.
KONO HITO WA KIREI DESU. This person is beautiful.
KONO HITO WA KIREI DEWA/JA ARIMASEN. This person is not beautiful.
MACHI WA SHIZUKA DESU. The city is quiet.
MACHI WA SHIZUKA DEWA ARIMASEN. The city is not quiet.
MACHI WA NIGIYA DESU. The city is noisy.
