LONDON FIRE
1998-1999
McCARTNEY CUP CHAMPIONS!

LONDON CAPITALIZES ON THE BIGGEST 'CHOKE' IN PMNHL HISTORY...

THE FIRE'S 1ST PMNHL McCARTNEY CUP CHAMPIONSHIP!

There are upsets, and there are chokes! No offense London, but you didn't win the McCartney Cup, Albany lost it. In the biggest series of their 6-year existence the Albany Wolfwoods Warriors managed only 19-points in the PMNHL McCartney Cup Championship Final. It was a fate that the Warriors, and Owner/GM Don McKechnie did not derserve. The Warriors have struggled through 5-losing seasons, only to have a magical ride this year crash and burn in the big show. When it counted, McKechnie's players simply didn't get the job done. One can hardly blame the owner for that. However, we won't forget the triumph of the Fire. Tony Walsh, a long time member of the PMNHL, and one of only three members of the Executive Council is a dedicated owner and certainly deserves his name engraved up Mr. McCartney's Mug. Active in adding/dropping and trading of players throughout the season, Walsh separated his Fire franchise from the playoff-spot war with 3-weeks to go in the regular season and settle in for the playoff run. London squeaked by Tel Aviv in the 1st round, battled past a determined bunch of Icebears, and then watched as the Warriors dropped to the ground in the final.

Indepth analysis and updates on the nominees for individual awards, as well as the listing of prize money, plus word on fees, committments, and expansion for next season can be found right here within the next week. CONGRATULATIONS TO TONY WALSH AND THE LONDON FIRE FRANCHISE - THE 1998-1999 PMNHL McCARTNEY CUP CHAMPIONS!
