Shock Media 2000 Summer Spirit Issue - SM Indie CD Review

SM Indie CD Review
Drums & Machines #2
The DNA Album

Drums& Machines #1 is getting good airplay on College radio across Canada since we reviewed it this Spring.

[ Picture ]

This encouraged us to take a look at the second cd "Drums & Machines #2 [DNA], released June 5th, less than 4 months after the debut album rolled off the master press.

Sensing that we're in for a ride with this material, we decided to continue our examination of this strange musical phenomena. If we can make this artist rise from the ashes like a Phoenix, then Shock Media gets publicity. We consider this a symbiotic relationship as DNA promises to be another slam-dunk. Crank this disk on your system, and let it speak for itself.

1/ The Cause 3:04

We're dishing out bigtime
keep wishing you were in another time
it's what you call a trade-off,
your life in return for the cause

(Look into the sun,
tell me what you see)
Flash, Bang,
You just toasted your eyes.

2/ Deliverance 3:30

3/ Your Face Is Just A Mask 3:28

We were falling too fast
They were calling...
we were falling too fast

Keep falling, your just a gas
behind our dollars, our face is just a mask
admit it, you don't give a damn
as far as nature goes, wham bang thank you m'am

I learned about Habilis and Sapiens...
in school about water and land
and about peace coming soon.

Face it, the place could be a threat,
we haven't finished our philosophy just yet,
in a slam, you're doing what you can,
bleed for your money with your working man hands.

4/ The Natives are Restless 2:10

Now Martha and Mary have decided that there is a certain time
in which this situation has to be dealt with.

5/ A Slave to your own DNA

You got the power you can't go wrong
use it now, to make yourself strong
You got the ability the agility
and a sense of semi civil liberty
You got the power, you can't go wrong

That's what you call incompatability
and a fuzzy false sense of security
keep wonderin about humanity
and if that DNA, just makes you silly
Yes, a slave to your own DNA
Now you got the power, to break away
To slam down the hammer here today
to make a stand, to pave the way
People use power to make'emselves heroes,
Like Nero, he burned down Rome
Playin his fiddle, the little devil
Let's take this idea to a much higher level
You got the power that makes you think
you got a horse, now make it drink
there's more than one chapter to the power thing
You were out, and now you're in

Tell it to the Warden, he gets his kicks
From stories, how they do the Brinks
Non-criminals kids make him sick
for them too he's got rooms made of bricks
You got the power to make a change
in a world certifiably deranged
You got the power to make a pop
You got the power and the power don't stop

It don't stop till you stop kickin
Power takes a lickin but always keeps tickin
Use it like a power cop, to stop a riot
fly like a bird 'n select power-pilot
People use power, to abuse
there's a lotta excuses that they use
like " I wanted the best for my country"
Is that why your folks are desperate and hungry?

Play it like a game and make yourself the main player
Use the power now, don't wait to use it later
Gotta have a plan like a layer on a layer
Switch on the power, and say a prayer
You got the power, you can't go wrong

You can take that horse to the river
but the water don't taste good even if it glitters
go home, turn on the force,
Turn the power on cause the light is gettin dimmer
What's wrong you look like a wreck
just warmin up, I haven't even started yet
a lotta the people that you see, are really dead
They never got to put their conscience to bed
You got the power, you can't go wrong

6/ We Are Not Dealing With A Natural God 3:32

7/ They Shall Walk 3:51

8/ Your Heart Is Not A Plaything (Remix) 3:47

9/ Hurricane (Remix) 4:19

10/ Basic Intelligence 3:05

11/ Saved 1:22
