Each resident that books into
our shelter receives a personalized letter outlining our services. We
seek to immediately help people recognize that we are a place that cares
for them and that we can provide much of the assistance they need in
order to get off the streets.

Dear resident,
Welcome To The Salvation Army Gateway. We hope that while you are here you will feel safe and valued as a person. As a staff here at Gateway, we are motivated by the love of God and the life and teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, we desire to provide supportive community with consideration for the dignity and worth of each individual person. That means you! You have value and are worth something. You have gifts/ talents that make you unique. We hope that while you are here, we can together explore not only the things that you need but also the things you can offer to community. Our mission statement is this: "Offering, encouraging, modeling and teaching community in Christ, as a gateway to meet the holistic needs and develop the gifts of adults in our midst." We hope that while you are with us you will receive the support you require in order to find more appropriate housing in the larger community. We provide services that include nutritious meals, clothing, supportive counseling (addictions, mental health, spiritual, etc.) medical clinic, Housing support, ID searches, Chapel services, literacy training, etc. Please feel free to use any of these services while you are here. As we do not believe it is helpful for an individual to not move forward in life, we find it necessary to have in place a policy that requires each resident to meet our counselor once they have been with us for 7 days. This is so we can get to know you and find out what issues are in your life that you want help with. You will notice that we have other little policies in place as well (Such as charging a nickel for a cup, and charging a small fee for razors, toothpaste, etc.). This is not so we can make money but it is an effort to say we care for you and we believe it is healthier to earn something than to get it for free. Any money we do make goes directly back into getting more supplies that we need. On the next page you will find a list of our programs and times. On occasion these times will change so as an added aid to our services we will post a list of our daily activities on the easel in the reception area. We have also added a list of our rules. These are in place for your safety, not in an effort to have power over you. Have a safe and healthy stay with us. And most importantly,
remember we care for you, and you are special.
In Peace,
The Gateway staff.
