The huge popularity of the primetime show M*A*S*H in the 1970's opened the way for several spin-offs. Although this type of programme, set up to capitalize on the fame of an already well-loved character, frequently fails, there have been some notable successes through the years. Trapper John, M.D. was one of these.
The show actually begins 28 years after Dr. "Trapper" John McIntyre has returned from Korea. In the intervening years he has mellowed somewhat and become part of the establishment he had scorned as a young man, now serving as Chief of Surgery at San Francisco Memorial Hospital. In the pilot, however, he meets up with a younger, wilder version of himself in Dr. George Alonzo "Gonzo" Gates, who has recently returned from another M*A*S*H unit in Vietnam.
The series ran for seven seasons, from 1979 until 1986, and was popular around the world. It was an excellent mix of drama and humour, with a good group of characters and talented writers.
With the exception of star Pernell Roberts, who replaced M*A*S*H actor Wayne Rogers in the title role, the cast was comprised mainly of young unknowns. They would not remain unknown for long. Trapper John, M.D. would launch several of its stars into very successful careers.

I have now put together what biographical information I have been able to obtain, as well as TV and film credits, for all of the main actors. Unfortunately, I am having trouble finding information on the women! If anyone can supply me with more info, please e-mail me.
