Haiku is a form of Japanese Zen poetry usually based on the
syllabic pattern 5, 7, 5.  This piece is a musical description of a
fictional spiritual experience brought about by the reading
of haiku.  Following each of several "musical haiku", in which
the syllables are replaced by individual notes, is a section
describing the reader's thought processes.  At first somewhat
chaotic and disjointed, the reader's thoughts gradually calm and
focus more on the haiku themselves until thought itself is transcended
and only the haiku remain.
